"The best offense is a good defense."

Nice little quote there right? Yeah, it has been said by several people in history. Usually when people are creative enough to come up with these fancy little quotes that people generally use, they are supposed to be someone that was probably wise in their time. However, if this quote was to be actually broken down, one would realize that the originator of this quote was obviously a very weak individual. Anyone who believes in the quote enough to repeat it to their own discretion obviously is just like the originator, and that will be proven a bit later on. So some have bothered to question it the other way around."The best defense is a good offense."

Sounds about the same right? But no, there is something wrong with that. In the first instance, we are depending solely on our defensive skills to take us through. But would that really work? That is the question on the floor. In instance two, we are depending solely on our offense with no defense. Any person who watches any sport that requires offense and requires defense, what do you do? Do you eliminate one to strengthen the other? If so, is that enough to make up for the lack of the missing factor? There are a lot of questions you must look over before simply relying on one factor along to get you through the game."Attack is the best form of defense."

There is another one for those people who love quotes. And no, that one was not just made up, it is actually a proverb. So then if you are one of those that rely solely on your defense, your method of defense is to attack, if you are using the best defense that is. Since Drew had stated he was going to operate with his defense in their match this Sunday, that told Phoenix that he was planning to do some attacking. Or...was he? Once reading that and analyzing it, you must realize that attacking is truly a form of offense. And if that were the form of defense that Drew was planning to use, he would be operating outside of his comfort zone. With his comfort zone being defense, he would switching over to offense. His so famous quote of having that good defense would need to turn into the one about offense. But can he do that? Is Drew Stevenson versatile enough to switch up his style like that? The answer is no. He said so himself actually. Drew is actually operating like an open book. He opens himself up for all to read right through him. He said himself that he had been using a technical style of wrestling for years and that he had been known as the best technical wrestler in the world. See the good thing about Phoenix was that she always paid attention to even the smallest of details. Drew made it just a bit easier for her though. He gave her several details that she could put together. See, she was a versatile wrestler. She could differentiate certain points of her arsenal and design them customarily for her opponents. Now that Drew was giving her information she needed to know, she was preparing herself mentally for what he could bring. If he wanted to bring a strong defense, she had a strong offense for it. If he wanted to bring a strong offense, she had a strong defense for it. If his defense was to attack, she had an offense to serve as a counter attack. Basically, he was going to want to bring some form of a problem and whatever form that might be, Phoenix has the solution. And that my friends is what makes her so tough to beat.

x~. Sunday, January 18, 2008

Now of course, that was not the current date. Oh no, it was still only Wednesday. Sunday was but four days away and what a day it would be. That thing called irony was going to kick in. Now you must ask yourself this: isn't it ironic that the day Drew was going to put his defensive plan into order against Phoenix and Michael James, the team that he focused on would be playing for the AFC Championship? The irony is that since he focused on this "defensively sound" team, they would actually be playing the team that probably actually has the best defense in the National Football League right now, that being the Baltimore Ravens. So there would be two defenses being challenged on the very same time, somewhat about the same time. The game would actually be about over when Phoenix and Drew actually took the stage. But that was actually a good thing. That would give Drew a bit of time to watch some of the game so he could see how his team faired against the Baltimore Ravens. Of course Phoenix was going to be going for the Ravens. She did not much care for either team, but for the sake of competition, she was going to go for the opposite team. And if they won, it would make Sunday night even better. He could see how Pittsburgh's defense actually failed and how since he would be comparing his defense to theirs, how his would also fail.

Our scene would open up with Phoenix dressed pretty appropriately according to the subject that Drew had chosen, that being football. She was going to go right along with what his subject was and still be able to keep her message related to the match at hand this Sunday. Behind her was the backdrop of the Baltimore Ravens. Since he was at Heinz field, the home field of the Steelers, she figured she might at well choose something opposing that since she was opposing him. Made sense right? Right! She smiled as she realized the camera had come on. It was time to continue this wonderful discussion with Drew.

Phoenix So Drew, we are at it again. And what was that subject you referred to...the steel curtain?

Phoenix chuckled a bit.

Phoenix I am Phoenix, I have heard of quite a bit in my day. And see, even if I had not, I am an opponent that you can bet will do the required research whenever necessary. But yes, the "steel curtain," the nickname given to the front four of the famous defensive line of the Pittsburgh Steelers back in the seventies. This particular defense was the backbone of that Steelers dynasty back then and actually brought them to a total of four Super Bowl victories. And as the years continued, that steel curtain nickname would eventually evovlve into a reference to the entire defensive squad. Back in the year of seventy-six, that Steelers' defense was the most dominant of all time. This would be the same time when they lost Terry Bradshaw and really had to depend on their defense. And it worked because none of their opponents after that were able to score a single touchdown. Out of nine games, their opponents scored just two touchdowns and five field goals. But what is left out of that so glorious defensive story is that the Steelers were scoring an average margin of twenty-two points a game.

Phoenix paused to let that statement about their points set in for a bit. It was very vital to know and to also remember.

Phoenix See, it is often a common mistake for people to leave out vital information when they only want you to know so much. Then again, it might not be a mistake, it could just be that they want you to know only what they want you to know. You see, you like to believe that the best offense is a good defense right? In some cases, you could possibly prove that to be true, but I doubt this would be one of those times. You see, it is all nice and dandy that the defense were doing so good against the others offense. But had the Steelers' offense not done some of the work, that so impressive defense would not have been so impressive. For one, the game would have just been stuck. No one would be scoring. Therefore, there would be a lot of draws being given. And also, no one would have thought much of the defense if both teams were stopping the offense. You would agree right? So while you use your steel curtain strategy, what do you propose to do about someone with just as much defense as yourself? Or due to the fact that you not only have one opposing force to deal with, but two, how do suggest your steel curtain will work against that? I do not think they ever had a football team to face two offensive squads at once. Had that been the case, I strongly doubt that we would even be having a discussion about a steel curtain. Better yet, I doubt it would have ever been invented.

Phoenix holds up one hand.

Phoenix Now what you must realize Drew is that different strategies only work at different times. Take this football thing again for example. As I mentioned, the Steelers had to have offense to coordinate with that defense in order to really pull off the win. Otherwise, they would have just been doing a hell of a lot of defending and for what purpose? So while you sit there and depend on your defense, what is your solution for your offense? While you think of that, take this into mind. Let us make a transition over from football to basketball. Still using your defensive strategy here, it would end up with the same results. You play defense all night. True enough, your defense must turn into offense, but you are not worried about your offense. You are solely defense, or so you said. And what you must realize, I am your opposition. That is saying enough as is, but you must add to that the fact that I know your strategy. I have been in this industry for a good while now so I know just how to take care of your type. Even in football, there is always an offense to break through defense. That is probably why Pittsburgh probably has not been winning every game since they developed that steel curtain defense. Their steel curtain just got bent by the Titans a few weeks ago. And in basketball, take the Boston Celtics for example. People thought they would be unstoppable. They were undefeated for a good while. Now look at them, enough said there. So though your steak remains impeccable in WGEF so far, does not mean it will always. It just took a while for the Steelers to be figured out and then they lost. It just took a while to figure the Celtics out and then they lost. And now, it has taken about five months for someone to figure out what to do to tarnish that record of you, and surprise, I am here.

Phoenix holds up her another hand now.

Phoenix But now if you want to look at this considering this event is called "Civil War," you might still have a bit of a problem on your hand. If I were to start firing whatever I have in my arsenal against you, you will defend yourself? So that means I am just shooting at you all night in this war and you are not firing back at all. So who stops me? That becomes the question. See, the strategy itself seems to have several flaws in it. If not that, you sure have to ask yourself a lot of questions to really back up the whole purpose of the theory. What if our great soldiers of this country were depending on your strategy. Their best offense is a great defense? That would mean that we have a bunch of guys over there wasting even more of our money. That would mean they are over there with people who have no problem killing themselves and others to get what they want accomplished. But we would not develop any offense against that because we are working on such a strong defense. It seems like all the bugs have not been gotten out of that strategy just yet. It needs a bit of work.

Phoenix held up the hand she had up at first again.

Phoenix Now on the other hand, we bring this steel curtain strategy back to wrestling. As I said, it only takes so long to figure something out. And for someone like me, it really does not take a long time at all. I catch on to things pretty fast. I study defenses to improve my offense. All in the same, I study offenses to improve my defense. So Drew, you might want to think about switching up that strategy of yours. Or, are you as confident as you say? Are you confident enough in yourself to keep that strategy the same and test the waters? I will tell you exactly what will happen though. You will come out and try your hand at all of that defense. But in the end, you probably just end up getting stomped into the mat and leaving the victory up to myself or Michael James, actually myself, but we got to mention him in here somewhere.

Phoenix shrugs.

Phoenix I have no problem with you and your curtain though. But against someone like me, adding in the fact that I will have a bit of "help" if you will, that curtain will come down in Tokyo. The point of the matter is, you cannot rely simply on defense really, but I still challenge you to try. I would really suggest mixing up a bit of good defense and good offense to really have yourself a full proof plan. The best offense is to attack and the best defense is to protect yourself against attack. Now you can quote me for saying that and see yourself how that works against what you hvae in mind. But that is about enough about this whole steel curtain and defense strategy of yours, I guarantee you I already have the solution for that. Let me get on Michael James for a second.

Phoenix scratches her forehead and pulls out a piece of folded paper from her pocket. She unfolds it and reads whatever it is that is written on it.

Phoenix Now I think that my reading is pretty....substantial. I usually do a pretty good job of reading things. When I got the card for this Sunday's pay per view, I am almost certain that I read Michael James' name on this thing.

Phoenix scrolls down the paper with her finger.

Phoenix And the thing is, I know I did not have to look too far. After all, we are on the top spot on this card, so you hardly have to look for it.

She stops her finger on her name and her eyes trail from left to right on the paper obviously suggesting that she is reading it again. After she is done, she nods her head and continues.

Phoenix Well yeah, his name is still on this paper, so I imagine he has not been pulled out of the match. This match has been made since about Saturday or Sunday, not really sure when I first saw it. I am sure that it was one of those days though. We have not heard a thing from that young man yet. Michael, what are you waiting for? Maybe you are just as confident as both myself and Drew Stevenson put together that you can just come in at the end and just win it all? You got some fancy little strategy as well? What you have, the Michael Jordan theory or something? What, since your name is Michael for one, and since you last name as begins with a "J," you are going to shock us all when it looks impossible for you?

Phoenix licks her tongue around the front of her teeth. She had to take a second to think on that one.

Phoenix Now I can kind of follow Drew with his strategy. It makes at least a bit of sense. I am not so sure your whole theory is going to work. You have to take a couple things into consideration. For one, you are facing not one, but two people. Then you have to look at the fact that you already lost against one of those two people in a singles competition. I suppose the odds of you winning decrease even more after adding in yet another competitor. Then adding in again that you lost to one already, that drops the odds of you winning once again. Then with you waiting until the last minute to try to prepare yourself for the match, that will probably drop that odds that you will win even more. So I am not into all of the mathematical equations and all of that, but I suppose after adding in a few numbers, subtracting some, carrying the two, and all that, your chances end up at..........slim to none. But hey, just like Drew, I dare you to keep whatever confidence you have in yourself to try out this strategy of yours. Take his advice and be wise of his generosity towards you, because just as he said, Phoenix is not here to be generous to you. I will just murder you and continue on.

Phoenix shrugged innocently. What could she say? It was her way of taking care of business. She was not a very generous person, at least not when it came to the business. She had every intent on just murdering Michael James, whoever he is, and doing the same to Drew Stevenson. Though Drew was showing Phoenix a lot of respect still, she would not let up on anything. All the nice words were fine as she told him at first, but she would keep all her nice things for when the time was right, if that time ever came that is. If not, you would hear no complaints from her. She was Phoenix, her words hit hard, and her moves hit harder. It was one deadly combination that had proved to get her through numerous of opponents.

OOC Statement: Here is number two...probably try to get number three in within the next few days with a STRONG possible fourth probably Sunday....definitely no guarantee there though. Anyway, hope you enjoy and that was a very interesting r/p Drew, enjoyed reading that.
