In the Summer of your smile
Are they hazel or amber those eyes?
Scanning the old masters in the gallery
Dipping her head with that radiant smile
That lights my insides like a christmas tree.
Laughter trickles as we peer at brushstrokes and details
and discuss like critics what we like and what we dont
I overdosed on Cherubs
and diamorphic veils were sparse
But you took me back to Medieval art
and we stood entranced by fine detail on wood
carried in your postcards home.
My fragrant rose she blooms
over dinner conversations
and we plot rooms in realisations
of the disppearing time.
So much Rembrant Renoir , Monet
and Vangogh to go and see
Oh than carravagio just for me
We skipped caneletto
but saw De vinci
and that was good enough for me
Do you remember in the quiet half light
when we had the cartoon to ourself
I nearly Kissed you
but I stopped myself
But I felt so alive
Felt so alive
for the moments of today.
Winter blew her cold wind soft
Catching your henna'd Highlights
in the winters pale light
but we held hands like springtime
in the portraits of the tudors
and I basked just one more time
in the beauty and the sunlight of that smile
How you light your face
and send my heart a race
to the farewells at Waterloo sunset
Like brief encounter
But I wont forget
I wont regret
The precious seconds
I get
In the summer of your smile.
