Doormat

 

As a child I was told to be seen and not heard

Do as you are told

Do not argue

To express my anger was to be disobedient

And disrespectful to my elders

 

As an adult I cannot confront or show my anger

I have people walking all over me

I cannot say how I feel

 

A doormat is what I am

What I shall always be

 

Unless I can find a way

To confront my past

And deal with my anger

I shall never be able to see a brighter tomorrow

 

I wait and pray that this day will be soon

When I can clear my attic

Put the past behind me

And move forward

 

Into the brighter tomorrow

That I know I have the right to

 

But fear only stops me from stopping

To be a door mat
