Newbie Approver

Many managers have their groups set as "Public restricted and/or Moderated" to keep the spammers and trolls out. Problem is that often a potentially good member doesn't take the time or forgets to put a note in the application. Sometimes the note is too generic (similar to a spambot) to make a decision. This Newbie Approver helps to make the job of weeding out the undesirables a little bit easier.

Introduction

     The newbie approver is designed to make it easier to accept good potential members as opposed to screening out bad ones. Profiles and E-mails are probably the least useful weapons in the arsenal. Spammers and trolls often have valid e-mails and profiles. A determined troll will even reply to e-mails and jump through whatever hoops you put in front of them.

       The most valuable tool is the search. Nicknames that have a track record of making legitimate posts in other groups will more than likely be good members or at least not cause trouble in your group.

     Sometimes the search may not bring up anything on a prospective member. This is not a good sign, but before you hit the deny button, consider that they may be new to groups or only post in private groups. If the message they leave you leads you to believe this is the case, the best way to handle this is to send them an e-mail from a junk e-mail account created solely for this purpose and see if they reply.

How do I view a MSN profile?

Log into your MSN Messenger account, open the main window,
and Right-Click on one of your contacts in your contact list,and select: View MSN Profile from the list.This will open a new window in your browser, and link you to the profile of that contact. If you wish to search for new people, you will have to go to the site http://members.msn.com and there you can search for a new contact with lots of preferences to filter out just the person you're looking for.
