Where is a good place to buy 1/8 baltic birch plywood? I heard this is the best wood to use on portrait patterns.I have been buying my wood from home depot. It works ok but the smallest wood is 1/4 in. thick. Is it best to use 1/8 in. over 1/4 in.?

The  advantages of 1/8" are you can stack cut more pieces and it fits in frames better.
I'd try a local lumber dealer to see if they can order it for you, a lot of the time the chain type stores won't do that where a local  may.
There are also places you can have it shipped to you like http://www.sloanswoodshop.com/

I get most of my 1/8" plywood from www.scrolleronline.com. I get the Finnish Birch, a better grade than the Baltic Birch. More expensive but worth it. Mick.

I find mine at Michaels Arts and Crafts store. Don't know if you have one where you live but it's worth checking out any store of that type, they may carry it usually for school projects.

If you have a Hardwood Center or Specialty Wood Supplier in your area check with them. I get 1/4" BB 5x5 sheet $12.37 and 1/8 BB 5x5 sheet $6.90 ,and if cut in 12x12 squares you get 25 from each sheet

If you have a local Woodcraft, they typically have 24 X 30 1/8 BB sheets for $3.99. 12 X 12 pieces are fine unless you want to cut 16 X 20 portraits, hehehe. Two big differences between Baltic and Finnish birch ply's are that Finnish is exterior grade and good on 2 sides (typically). So if you're doing an outdoor project or you plan on having 2 sides showing, Finnish would be a better choice, otherwise it's not worth the extra expense (IMO).

Well Allen if you want to give 1/8" oak a try they sell that at lowes or home depot. Its sold in the cabinet/ countertop area. Its hard to find so ask for  help(They are in vertical shelves near the end of the countertop isle by the bathrooms if all stores are set up the same). I think they call them end pannels. They may not be the cheapest but they are readily available to purchase.

I wasn't sure if this board allowed the posting of links, but I see from posts above mine, that it must be.

I sell a ton of 1/8" thick wood. And all thicknesses up from there. Having check with Sloan's, I'm pretty sure I've got every single one of their prices, for every species, beat. If not...let me know.

Hi: I myself  get mine from a cabinet shop they give me all their drop off that they can't use  for free. So maybe you might call up  some of the cabinet shops in your area. and ask  if you are not in need of 4x8 sheet of the plywood.I got all different kinds of plywood from the cabinet shop  i get my wood from. Just a thought.
