Please read this area and the rules and regulations that govern our site that follow..

The site was created in early March, 2002, and has become one of the largest scrolling groups on the internet. It's is a nice place to visit, get information and to unwind before getting back onto your saw to create your next piece of art. It's the members here that have made the club grow so big and word of mouth has led other scrollers to the site to join in on the fun and learning side of the scroll saw.

Enjoy the site and please contribute by sharing your ideas and thoughts and try to help someone out if you can. This site is for giving as well as taking.

General Rules

This site contains the best atmosphere you could ask for in a scroll saw club. This has been achieved by setting basic guidelines and rules that are not meant to hold you back, but to insure that all members will be comfortable, no matter what gender, age or origin. The following basic rules are put into place to ensure a smooth running and enjoyable site for all scrollers:

1. Patterns on this site are all original in content. All designs and works on this site are the property of the designers that post it. You are not authorized to download or copy any work that is not yours from this site without permission from the original designer. A lot of work goes into them, they are posted so you may critique and admire them. The Free Patterns area is the only area from which you may download patterns for your personal use. Please read the statement on the first page of the free pattern area for more information about using the Free Patterns area. No work from other designers, publications, comic books or any other copyrighted material are permitted to be posted unless written permission from the person who has the copyright is delivered to the moderators before hand. Patterns that may be considered “derivatives?of an existing pattern are also not allowed. Just because you changed a couple of lines does not make it a new pattern. Before posting patterns in the Free patterns area, be sure to read Rules for posting and downloading Free patterns (pdf format). Note:A text version of the rules is located here.

2. This is a family site. We have a strict policy about obscenity and harsh language. No nudity or adult content will be allowed in portraits or patterns posted on the site. If you have a piece that may be questionable, email a copy to a moderator for inspection. If you have a problem with any member you are instructed to contact a moderator about it immediately. The use of obscenity is grounds for instant dismissal from the group... no exceptions. Remember that this is a family site, and we do have young adults, teens and children who visit on a regular basis.

3. Any sales transacted between members of this group are to be handled via email only. We are not a commercial pattern sales group. Any designer who has patterns for sale must do so through email or their own website. Designers are expected to conduct their business in a professional manner. If there are valid complaints from members due to improper business transactions, the designer will have this privilege revoked. Designers who wish to sell their work must be listed in the “Our Designers?area of the group. The rules for selling patterns are posted below.

4. Messages that are deemed to be objectionable or causing disharmony in the group will be removed at the discretion of the owner and/or moderators. We are a friendly group and hope to remain so. If you have a problem with the group or a member of the group it should be handled via email. If you can not contact the member, contact the moderators and we will try to intercede on your behalf. If you find a message objectionable or are spammed, please contact the moderators immediately and we will rectify the situation. Please do not flame the situation with additional messages. We ask that you let us know about them before the little problems become large events. If any part of this site or members within this site is expressing objectionable content please bring it to the attention of the moderators.

5. This is a place to come and relax and share our art form. Any member harassing members of the opposite sex or trying to pick someone up is clearly in the wrong group, and will be banned immediately. There is zero tolerance on sexual harassment at Scroll Saw Portraits.

We will try to keep the rules simple and short. They will not be difficult to understand or excessive. But they will help to keep the Scroll Saw Portraits Group a fun and educational place to come and visit.

Designers' Pattern Sales Rules

SSP Designers Advertising Group is an area where any designer who is a member of the Scroll Saw Portraits group may post information about their patterns and how they may be contacted. This is the only place where a designer may advertise the sale of their patterns. All designers wishing to use this service are required to read and adhere to the following rules concerning the use of the this list.

  • Designers, if you wish to sell your work, you may post an advertisement only in the Our Designers area, along with a website and/or email address where the members can contact you. Designers may sign message posts with a web address and/or email address under their name. Please don't make it look like a billboard - keep it tasteful.
  • Due to bandwidth considerations, patterns will not be allowed to be posted in the albums. We have to reserve this space for finished scroll saw work only. It is recommended that you establish a website to display your patterns for sale.
  • Once every quarter designers will be allowed to make one posting to advertise their work for sale (previously allowed only one time). That way new members would know which designers are selling patterns and some of the tenured members could be reminded. We will set a certain week every 3 months as designer's week, during which you post the above-referenced message. This message will be a regular post with no graphics or billboard-like lettering.
  • There will be no other messaging about patterns for sale any other time. If a designer wants to post a pattern for free for a limited time in the Free patterns area and state it is limited to a week, 2 weeks, etc., that is permitted. But it will only be a one-time posting.
  • If someone asks about your patterns or is looking for patterns in general, ask them to contact you by email. All sales and the particulars of those sales need to be conducted on your private site or email.
  • If there are valid complaints from members about a designer due to improper business transactions, the designer may have their privilege revoked. Complaints will only be conducted by email to the group manager or assistant managers.
  • Any listing of a designer who is not a member of the Scroll Saw Portraits group, or the advertising of a website or pattern sales of a person who is not a member of the Scroll Saw Portraits group, will be removed from the list.

We would like our members to have access to our designers without them being constantly bombarded with advertisements. Selling patterns through Scroll Saw Portraits is a privilege afforded to you as a member. If need be, we reserve the right to adjust these rules at any time.
