I rec'd. an e-mail the other day indicating that MSN is closing its' groups. Another scrolling group I belong to is looking for a host. They have indicated that the are NOT going to be going with MSN's partner, Multiply. I am in 100% agreement with this and am curious what is gong to happen with this group. I would love to stay with this group as it has been most helpful, however, I have NO intention of going with Multiply or any of the "Windows Live" websites due to some serious personal concerns over privacy issues. Also, I believe that Microsoft is, further, abandoning the users that have made it successful. I'd love to hear others' opinions on that and would appreciate the group managers' plans for the future of a great group!

Dan

Dan and members,
We have been looking into these matters and did not want to cause a stir until we got all the facts.
No one out there currently has the features that MSNgroups has. No site that the group moves to will be the same as we have it now.
I have been looking at a lot of sites but decided to look at Multiply since its the only site that will migrate all of our history and information. This first and foremost has to happen or we will loose everything. Weather we copy and paste from the multiply site onto another will remain to be seen but it needs to move there to start. No matter what we do it will be different and new. I hate change more that anyone and I put years into this site but it has to happen and I am looking to make the best of it. We are moving to a new house but we are taking along all of our furnature and they are helping us move it.
Multiply has groups, privacy settings, administrator settings, no storage limits on pictures, unlimited pages and other things that make it an atractive move. It does have areas that are like myspace but it does not have to be set up that way. It has a blog rather than multiple message boards but after you get used to how the editing and pages work in setting things up it will have a simmilar feel to what we have here now. Of course it will look different and feel different but as we have stated it has to happen and if only just for a short period of time it will be something for us.
If you like the wonderful scrollers in the site then it should not matter what site you go to as long as you have your good friends along to continue improving and helping the craft of scrolling.
I have set up an area for the, "Portrait Freedom" family to view finished cuttings of their loved ones that we have done. Anyone can get on the site and navagate it. This is how we would like the new SSP site to be. User friendly and easy to use. You all know how long it took to get things figured out here on MSN when first getting into it.
This is the site for the family members:
I just set it up today so I realize the main welcome page needs spruced up and I only have the "A" list links working to the pictures in the portrait locator that we have set up. Dont worry about the tabs at the top and just try to navagate around the site. Imagine you are a family member trying to find your portrait on the site by using the "portrait locator".
For the family site the set up works well. Will it work well for the message boards? I dont have that set up yet so I cannot confirm anything yet. I plan to give it a try at least to see if it can work.
We have time to work through this and nothing will happen overnight. You will not be left in the dark and information that has been collected over the years will not vanish. We thank you for your knowledge and help over the many years that we have been around and hope to keep that relationship no matter where we end up.
Thanks for your time and if anyone comes across an area that looks perfect for us give the moderators an email and we will check it out. We have researched many so far.
Gary and moderators SSP

Hi

I have tried to enter the site without any luck!!

I have an account but I can't use my old ID and password for this
part of Multiply.

I think there has to be a more serious and good info to take part of
this group. I would like to get some info HOW to do.

Turns out we are not going to use multiply for a site but we are keeping it as an archive area for the groups information for now. Our new project site will be on Shutterfly. Shutterfly purchased Nexo wich is a community building site. Shutterfly has merged that technology with their photo site. Now they have unlimited photo loading along with community tools. We have some time to  make sure but its looking like that will be the new home for Portrait Freedom. The only problem is that it has to be built from the ground up. They have no migration help for MSN sites.
Will make the site open for review shortly.

Carol,
I heard rumor that Yahoo will soon follow MSN. Would be best to avoid that area.

Larry,
I was talking about the Yahoo groups areas. It was stated by some that the yahoo groups would be next to go. Just a rumor at this point.

I am on more Yahoo groups than MSN groups.  I have not heard anything about them closing.  I have always found the Yahoo groups more user friendly than MSN.

I asked about the Yahoo groups closing on one of my groups and got an answer of NO.  This is the answer I got.

"NO Yahoo groups are not closing. They only closed one Yahoo owned group for power users. All regular groups are open and will stay that way."

I don't know where anyone got different information but I think whoever got the info that Yahoo groups are closing got the wrong information.

As stated in the message right after yours it was "rumored". It was not stated as fact. I hope Yagoo groups stays around for a long time. They have some groups that are popular. I personally just dont like the adds and  the lack of tools to edit your area. I had my own group on Yahoo groups for a while years ago.
