Hello scrollers, I am going to try to stay up late and hold a little more of a presence on this site. The project site is taking a lot out of me but I have neglected my friends over here something fierce. I don't have time to put into any more books and Fox Chapel has not asked me to make any patterns for the magazine in some time so my time is your time. If I can help with patterns or make any patterns for you just reply to this and I will try to help out a few here and there. Just give me some ideas or I will just start making some up. Dont count on a bunch of them but I will try to get something posted at least once a week. I look forward to getting back into the groove of things. Scrolling is pretty much a thing of rare luxury for me these days also. Jumping on the saw is like opening a Christmas present. Is it like that for anyone else? Wish there were more hours in the day.LOL Gary |

Gary, I got your first book out of the Camp Pendleton Library and bought my own copy when you updated it after I retired.
I have a pic of my grand daughter that I simply cannot get right. I think the problem is that there isn't enough contrast in the original pic. When converted to B&W I just cannot find enough separation.
I retired as a MSgt in 03 when my unit returned. The grandchilds daddy is a Sgt who just got back day before yesterday from his second tour. Her mom, my daughter, is a LCpl in the Reserves. The protrait will be a gift to the parents to hang on the door of the childs room.
Any help gratefully appreciated. And thank you for posting as I had lost this messageboards link. Semper Fi.

Hello Phil G, Sorry for the late reply. Been busy as can be. My boys are into sports, working overtime and you can imagine what else life throws at you. I can give this pattern a go for you and will try to get to it tonight or on the weekend. In the mean time if you have any full face shots it may turn out better. Will post it when complete, Semper Fi, Gary |

Hi Gary. I figured that you were busy. I've been working on the pattern in my copious (yeah right) free time as well. I have attached it. The black and gray are the result of layering and only using fifty percent opacity. So I have been essentially erasing bits of black and gray and then hitting undo if it didn't look right. I am going to laminate the original pic to the space where her hands are to give the impression she's holding it.
I do appreciate all help or advice. Thanks again.

Hello Phil, I gave it a quick go. Maybe you can use some of it. Feel free to use whatever you can to help you along. I actually used layering and traced the image to a seperate layer and then saved that layer as the pattern. It should be attached. Hope it helps some, Semper Fi, Gary Please let me know when you have a copy so I can delete it to keep my storage space down for the next one. Thanks! |

Gary, Thank you so much. I got the copy and it looks great. I may just do them both.

Hi, Gary. I have a question for you. I find it difficult & time consuming, using the photo type pattern making. So, my question is this. I take a photo, enlarge it to my acceptable size & then trace onto a white copy sheet. Then add or correct any lines or shadows on the copied print & transfer that to my wood piece. I would like your oppinion, if this is acceptable or not? Larry |

Hey Gary, I haven't seen a pattern anywhere for Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. My wife had the idea and thought I would pass it on to you. Thanks, sgtmccartney |

That is a great way to go Larry! In fact its the only way I do it now but I use a software program and instead of using a white sheet or tracing paper I use a layer in the graphic program. After highlighting the character marks I delete the photo underneath and only the layer I was tracing on is left. I touch that up as the pattern. A long time ago before I found out how to layer on the computer I used tracing paper and did the same thing you are talking about. Takes a little more effort and patience but works well. Gary |

Thanks Gary, I appreciate your comments. I'm just not having any luck with the software & going through all the steps to end up with a pattern. I guess I'm not into that tech. stuff. I love creating my own, although, I do a lot of others patterns, like yours for example. I always feel good when the art work is all done & have accomplished something. A great feeling. Thanks again. Gary, I was wondering if you could do some patterns of the characters of the Wizard of Oz. Can you guess where I live? Not sure you can do those because of copyrights. I was wanting to do a themed christmas tree. Thanks, |

Hi Gary I was wondering if you wouldn't mind making a pattern of my grandparents for me. Want to cut it for Christmas present for mom. Thanks, Twitchy |
