I don't want to stir up any trouble (yes I do) but I have a controversial question. Here it is:

If you could only subscribe to one, and only one, woodworking (scrolling) magazine, which one would it be? Why?

I had to fight the same question when it came to Macintosh mags and always came up short. That's why on something this important, I'm going to the experts.

Life's short, play hard.

Chase

PS Happy holidays to all you scrollers. LYMI

Definately Scroll Saw Workshop.... although I get both SSW and Creative Woodworks and about 4 other woodworking magazines...
If you want a magazine that is pure scrolling SSW is the only one on the market.  Creative Woodworks also has articles on carving and wood turing even though it is predominently a scrollers magazine..

If I HAD to choose just one (but that's impossible), it would be ScrollSaw Workshop.

I currently subscribe to:
SSW
CWWC
Weekend Woodworker
Popular Woodworking
Wood
Workbench
and a CD based magazine called Woodworking at Home. It includes video, text transcripts and printable plans.

Well in all fairness to the mags, here are their links.  A subscription makes a really nice holiday gift:

Creative Woodworks & Crafts: www.woodworksandcrafts.com
Scroll Saw Workshop: www.scrollsawer.com

ScrollerUK,
If you go to SSW's site (link above) they tell you how international subscriptions work.

many thanks

p.s. is it possible to buy blade holder replacements as the one on my new saw is very weak the manufacturer has replaced it once but the replacement is wearing out very rapidly
(the tightening bolt that is).

Scrollerruk1,

Don't know if this would work for you, but I have a very old Ryoki saw. The tightening bolt wore out on it a while back but I could not find a replacement part. It was a 1/4" bolt with reverse threads. I went to Ace and picked up a carriage bolt with standard threads and a nut to use instead. Had to drill out the threads on some of the parts but it works fine. Have to replace it about every 6 months.

Hi Joe,

I used to live in London Ontario and was always able to get the magazine from Chapters. It is not an easy magazine to get in the smaller communities in Ontario and I would look into getting a retail account with Scroll Saw Workshop to distribute the magazine here in Ontario if there is enough interest.

I prefer CWWC over Scrollsaw Workshop for the simple reason I get more issues with CWWC. SSW only has 4 issues a year.  Also, take note that usually 1 year after publication, crafts in CWWC appear in Wildwood Designs' catalog.
