Figured I'd give a brief rundown of 2 shows I've done since the spike in gas prices. I was a little concerned that sales would be off due to the gas prices but I was grossly mistaken. 2 weeks ago I did a 2 day show (the Apple Festival in Monroe, CT) and had an outstanding show. No one item sold best, I sold Wildlife, scenic and people portraits, puzzles and clocks. Basically a little of everything. I did sell out of a couple of items (portrait of Jesus and a portrait of Marilyn). My same show sales were up 265% from last year which tells me the gas prices had no effect on my sales. I would estimate the attendance for this show at around 5000. Last week I did one 2 minutes from my home (that was a nice change). Estimated attendance for this 1 day show was 30,000. There's typically a 4 - 5 yr waiting list to get in, I was very fortunate to get in on my second year of applying. Sales were quite robust at this one as well. Again, a little of everything sold, no single item stood out (though I did sell out of Elvis Portraits and T-Rex puzzles). I have noticed a trend in the higher priced items ($50 and up) outselling lower priced items in my last 3 shows. I'm taking a break this weekend (and replenishing stock) and will be back to doing shows next week. I hope this trend continues as my sales this year are up 700 percent over the same time last year.
