I was wondering if anyone has had there work juried by a Guild? I am finding some of the more exclusive art shows and galleries don't even want to talk to you unless you are in a guild.

Any one have experience with this?

Pat

I haven't heard of needing to be part of a guild in any of the shows around here in the Northeast Pat. I wouldn't even know where to look for a guild and don't know that I'd want to bother with one. There are a lot of fairly exclusive higher end type shows around here that do jury to get into the show. I only do juried shows. The better ones will require slides or photos of your work, photos of you creating your work, and photos of your display. A few of the really high end ones near me also do not allow more than 2 of any single item nor do they allow the use of commercial patterns (I'm not ready to do these yet).

Hey Pat... Yes I have been in several Juried shows, mostly in Va. Beach and out in San Diego, and I have never belonged to any of the guilds.  (not that I didn't want too, but my real job kept me moving all over the world) I found that I did a lot better in the shows that weren't juried though.  The high end ones draw high end people and I am too much of a down to earth person for that.  I have also done a lot of shows that has a "panel" or "board" that would vote on your work which was pretty good.  I know this doesn't help you much but I stick with the "mom and pop" shows, cummunity centers, schools and farm fairs to which I do well and have fun!!! I don't make a living at scrolling but I do plan to do it in retirement. I just have fun.. www.woodnwhatknots.net is my site.  fell free to email me with any questions you might have with shows and such!
