I hope I have a problem which is an easy fix. I'm so very frustrated that................ I have a dw 788 and am quite new to it, or it to me, what ever!! Anyway I am trying to cut through about 1.75 in spruce to make a name plate. I have carefully measured the table angle and it's fine ( both by a square and by cutting and then turning the block around ensuring the 2 "cuts" line up). I am careful to only push straight into the blade and not make the blade bend sideways. My result is that the topside of the cut is okay with the pattern but the bottom whoa wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy out. Blade tension is good. what am I missing? please help Thanks BUd |

You didn't say what blade you are using, but if you are using a #5 you might want to try feeding slower. I also would highly recomend using a skip tooth blade and not a reverse. I've found with a reverse blade you have to use a lot higher tension to eliminate taper especially in the thick woods. I hope this will help you some. |

You seem to have checked everything over thoroughly, only thing I can think of is what size blade are you using and maybe what speed is the saw running at Brett |

Thanks for the info As to the blade I was using a fairly aggressive blade (looked like a 12 skip tooth it came with the saw and wasn't labled). I then tried a # 5 2 way cut, same trouble.saw speed was about half, I thought I was being careful re the feed rate but who knows, will try again and see what happens. THS Bud |

I routinely cut 1 3/4" thick Alder and Black Walnut with my DW788, using an FD-1/0 Spiral reverse blade. I set the speed about 1/2 to 3/4, tension at 3-4 and light pressure/go slow. Works well for me! |

Had same problem years back and found that the problem was that my drill was set on O and was not True. Hope this helps. |

I cut a lot of 1 1/2" fir on my Dewalt with a #9 FDSR blade with the tension all the way to 5 on the scale. Speed is about halfway up the scale. Try a larger blade and more tension. |

I cut lots of thick wood for boxes, puzzles and nameplates. Mike M. (FD blades) told me to use FD Polar blades for compound cutting and I've since been using those for all thick wood cutting and they work great for me.
