(Note:  This is a long post, get yourself a cup of joe or a beer and enjoy!).

Well as I promised an EX-21 review, here's is the lowdown since I received the saw 5 Apr 05.  I'm going to start with the latest developments and work back chronologically and merge some of my older posts into this one (so all the info is in one post).

Due to some "blade blur," vibration and excessive play in the rear arm of the saw, I ended up ordering Seyco's custom designed stand ($125 plus shipping) for the EX-21.  I wanted to do this so as to alleviate any concerns that any of the two tables I had already used were the issue.  Ray (at Seyco) did cut the price on the stand for me since I have had so many issues with the saw to date.  There wasn't a week that has gone by [since I purchased the saw] that Ray and I haven't either talked on the phone or emailed one another trying to get my saw right.  The new stand did help but then I still had the play (.15mm) in the rear gear slide.  When it was all said and done, it was discovered that my saw and only one other Ray could locate had too much tolerance in the metal slide gear guide due to a parts supplier changing some specs in their part.  Seyco responded by designing and mailing me four nylon "guides" which I installed myself.  I pretty much had to tear the lower half of the saw apart to change out the parts, but there is absolutely no play now in my saw, and to beat it all, it is the only "sold" saw in the U.S. (or anywhere else I imagine) that has these nylon guides.  Ray believes Excalibur (or whomever they recently sold the Excalibur line to) will start manufacturing the saw with these guides so as to not have metal on metal contact (like the old design).

This saw (parallel link) does cut differently than a normal parallel arm saw.  For those of you using a Dewalt 788, same saw action, so no issue.  It has taken me some getting used to....

I'm quite happy with the EX-21 now, just wished it had not taken so long to work the bugs outta mine!  I have cut six projects on it to date, and have not broken a blade yet (most projects only required one blade as well—unheard of on my old saw?).

Here are some of my older posts so everything is in one place:

Re the saw, I had initial issues with it having some rough handling in shipment (we assume) which resulted in the entire saw needing some fine-tuning--I called Ray at Seyco and he walked me through most of it prior to me adjusting it up.  It was packaged very well (bolted to 1/2" plywood in box).  The box showed no visible signs of damage.....

I've also had some issues with my old stand (I swapped old saw for new).  It was a tall stand I had welded up years ago, due to its height, it was oscillating or whatever, causing me to get some side-to-side wobble in the blade at high speed.  I've temporarily clamped diagonal supports onto the old stand (all 4 sides) and that has helped tremendously.  I'm also looking into either building myself a custom table with a slanted top or purchasing the one Seyco designed/sells....

As far as "liking the saw, " I love the top feeding capability, the ability to raise the arm, and tool less blade changes (my old saw required a tool for the bottom holder).  I have had some issues with not getting as tight a turning radius as I should be (and yes the blade was adjusted tight enough).  Switching to a different manufacturer's blade has seemed to cure that, though I had just bought about $50 worth of those other blades prior to this saw.

The saw is big and heavy, and the table is huge on it.  Blower works well too.  One thing I can say, I've not broken a blade yet as compared with my old saw.....

Probably the biggest difference [between the 788 and the EX-21] is the head tilts vs. the tabletop tilting...I have some projects in mind to test that in the near future....

The table is much larger, and has a low friction powder coating.  It is showing a wee bit sign of wear, and Seyco has advised me to keep it waxed regardless....still much easier to maintain vs. a cast iron table (no rust!).

5 year warranty on the entire saw to include motor....

Seyco's customer service is/has been very outstanding, EVERY time I have called and asked for Ray (the owner I believe), I get him on the phone, and I really like that.
