Greetings and all good things to all of you fine folks!

I am a relative 'newbie' here (and a couple of other Scroll Saw Groups).  I have been told, by a couple of other scrollers, that a foot control (electrical on-off switch) is a tremendous help while scrolling.  Does anyone know where I can find such animal to attach to my Craftsman that I bought last December.  I tried the local Sears store, however, most of their employees are lucky to fund the correct building, extremely lucky to find the right department, and next to impossible to answer a question about the products they offer.

I am terribly thrilled right now.  We were making some kids' tables and stools to sell at craft fairs and my wife kept wanting me to work on tables and stools instead of taking some of the plywood in the garage and play/learn on the scroll saw.  We have sold NO tables and stools and she, finally, said "I'm making no more table sets."  I can now work on the scrolling which is what I want!  I have a few 'simpler' patterns to get me started and I plan to take a couple of classes after the 1st of the year (Craft Season will be over) on scrolling.

I appreciate any ideas any of you might have for a newbie!

Dan

Hey Dan, congrats on the saw and on getting into scrolling. A foot switch is a must, IMO. I can't even imagine working without it. I got mine many moons ago, mail ordered from Sears if I'm not mistaken. You should be able to find one on the Web somewhere. Start with Amazon and work from there. There's a host of woodworking tool sites that I'm sure offer what you need. Good luck!

Dan,
I would recommend one that turns on when you press down and turns off when you lift up your foot, rather than one that you have to press to turn on and press again to turn off. They are similar to a sewing machine without the variable speed.
Here is a link to one. I am sure there are other places who have them.

Dan, you can find them at www.woodworker.com. Item #908-190 and 108-815. They have 2 different ones, one you step on to turn the saw on, step off to turn the saw off. I have the other one that you step on to turn the saw on and step on it again to turn the saw off. You don't have to hold your foot on it to have it on. I stand while sawing and have it fastened to the saw stand at knee height, I just bump it with my knee to operate.
Mick.
