I have an RBI 226VS that is three years old.

Recently, each time I put tension on the blade and start the saw, I get a tapping sound. Usually after 5-6 strokes, the noise stops. I called RBI and the service man said that it is because the wedge on the tension arm hasn't settled into the pivot point. But it sound more serious to me. Has any of you RBI owners had that problem? I think it may be a worn part. I am going to call them again to discuss it, but in the mean time, I thought I would try to get an answer here. Could it be that I don't have enough tension on the blade?

BTW, in the three years I've had the saw, I have yet to break a blade! I've had the tension release when the blade got dull, but never broke the blade. I am very pleased with my saw!

Thank you in advance for your input.

El

Not sure where your noise is coming from but I have found at times the lever handle you set the tension with in the back of the saw vibrates over to the arm and it taps against that. I have since put a piece of rubber on the arm to stop that noise.

Thanks, JT. I checked the handle but that isn't it. I'm going to have someone start and stop the saw so I can get close to the back and listen better. The thing is, all the tension has to be released and then reapplied for it to happen. It probably isn't anything serious, just annoying. But I do want to find out the cause.

Not sure if you got your problem solved or not but thought you might want to post your question on their forum and maybe get a better answer. Good luck. http://cybermessageboard.fatcow.com/hawkwoodworkingtools/index.php

i have the G-4 saw and have had it for a little over a year,i also have a bit of a clunk noise when its running but only if the tention is to tight. i have checked the bearing underneth the saw and everything seems fine, but the clunk remains but since i don't have a wobble or breaking blades or antthing to that effect i am not gonna worry about.it. however i have had a bit of a problem with the blade holder on bottom, they sent me new blade holders modifyed to fit the g-4 which normally fit the 226 so it doesn't line up exactly i beleave.anyway i think thats why i'm getting the noise besides the tention. let me know what you find out,i would be interested in knowning what they said.

I posted a message on the RBI message board a week ago as suggested by JTTHECLOCKMAN. So far, nine people viewed it, but no one has posted an answer. Apparently that forum doesn't get many visitors. Even the RBI people don't seem to read it. Or maybe they are the nine people who viewed it. LOL

In the mean time, I think I figured out where the noise is coming from. With the power turned off, I tried moving various parts of the saw: ie the arm, tension rod, etc. to see if anything was loose. With a blade in the bottom and top holders, but without tension on the blade, I moved the blade back and forth. That is when I noticed the clicking sound coming from the bottom blade holder. It seems that the blade holder wasn't seating into the notch of the lower arm. I applied a small drop of machine oil to the lower blade holder pin and increased the tension a bit, and the noise seems to have gone away. For the time being at least.

Thanks for the interest.

Let me say this. You could have posted that question in the scrollsawing forum also and maybe gotten a better response but not sure. it is a new site that just came on line so not sure who is monitoring. I suggest you make a comment on the bottom forum on that site and express your interest in the viewing of the site. I will do the same in a few places there.
