square nuts that grips the blade. I have a delta scrollsaw and this afternoon I thought the blade broke but found out that it came loose from the bottom assembly on the saw. As I was try to retighten it, it just kept turning and turning...the threds must have striped, I just got this machine two months ago and the first time I used it, the bottom nut that came with the machine broke in half the first time I used it. When that happened, I took the nut off my old machine and have been using that but after 2 years, i quess that nut has finally had it. I called Delta and they said they can send me one but it would be 3 to 4 weeks to do so.....any one know any stores that may sell them...I tried Lowes and Home Depot but they have the screws but no square nuts. Any suggestions on what I may be able to do in the mean time???? have some orders and can't wait for that long to get a replacement from Delta.

Thank You,
Barry

Barry,
you could cut a square piece of 1/4 metal flatbar the same size, drill and tap it to size and use it till the new one comes.

You might try the local ACE or True Value hardware stores in your area. The ones here carry things we don't even EXPECT them to carry

I don't know where you live, but down here in South Texas we have a company named FASTENAL, and all they sell is screws, nuts &bolts, etc.  I once had a scroll saw that took a screw with a special head that the vendor charged me 60 cents each for.  I bought a whole box of the same fastener with a hex head from Fastenal for 8 bucks!  You may not want a whole box, but it will save you money and frustration in the long run.

If you  have the schematic of the saw parts it should state what size the thumbnail is.  Take the other one to the hardware store and measure it.  You should be able to get a thumb screw there.  If you don't have the parts list or schematic call Delta and request one.  I did that to a table saw I bought and they e-mail it to me

Good luck

I think ACE will be your best chance. I have been able to get odd size hardware from them in the past.

Wanted to thank everyone for their help. I went to Ace and a True Value store near me and neither had the nut......I want to Thank Arnie for suggesting FASTENAL, never heard of that store before and went on their website and found a store about 13 miles from me. Will be going their tomorrow to check it out. It's funny because they were close today so I went to Ace and True Value and asked them after I found out that they didn't carry the part if they ever heard of Fastenal befoe and neither place has heard of that store. Can't believe that I've lived here all my life (before and after I retired from the Air Force) and being that I live in the "hicks" in upstate New York, I never knew they had a business here. Again, thanks for all your help.

Barry

Brian:
Have you checked with Black and Decker for parts for your Delta machine? If you can't get replacement parts, I have a source of supply here in Alberta Canada that is fast. I have the Delta P-20 and most of the tools in my workshop are either Delta, Rockwell, Beaver or Porter Cable.
If you did not know, Black and Decker bought out Delta/Porter Cable last year.
