i used to have the same problem... i switched to flying dutchman flat end spirals...i also stripped out the square threaded block... i ended up drilling out the shot threads and putting a longer bolt in and putting a nut on the other side (this has happened to both 40-640 i've owned). i know now i have to use a wrench but it's cheaper than replacing.
