Last year when I did my HWC Fundraisers, I just checked the HWC box and the check went to The American Cancer Society. This year I did the same thing and HO called me to see if I was doing a HWC fundraiser. I don't know why they called because I had the boxes checked the same as last year. I verified that I wanted the check to go to the American Cancer Society.

Today I get a check in the mail made out to my mother-in-law and HWC. Will she be able to cash the check if it's made out to HWC and her? Then I guess we will have to send the money to the ACS.

I want to make sure that I do this right because I have 2 more fundraisers that I'm doing and I'm putting the name of the person who is purchasing the cups and squares as the host/chairperson. But I don't want a check going to them; I want it to go The American Cancer Society.

What have the rest of you done and has anyone received a check? Thanks for your help.

Monica

Monica -- I got that same call the other day.  However, I didn't check the HWC box for that VERY reason.  This was my first fundraiser, and I put in the ACS as the organization, and then the chair's name.  The check came to me (as did the orders) made payable to the ACS c/o Host name.  Everything went fine this way, and I'll do it this way from now on.  I think they were having system issues and the system got confused as to ACS and HWC fundraisers.  It took me a week longer to get that FR check as opposed to the preschool FR check (and both were submitted the same day).

So the check is made payable to Help Whip Cancer?

Your MIL will not be able to cash it if it says AND with the names and if it's made out to her AND "Help Whip Cancer" then I would doubt that American Cancer Society will even be able to cash that check, even if your mother-in-law endorsed it and sent it to them.

It is made out to:

Help Whip Cancer
%Dorma Griffith
c/o Monica Griffith (which is me)

I looked at what I did last year and Help Whip Cancer is checked and no where do I have ACS. I thought that if we checked HWC button, it went to ACS. Plus I want to get credit for the Breakfast of Caring for my HWC fundraisers.

I'm going to call HO and find out what the deal is.

I got the same call on my fundraiser.  I told them I wanted it to go thru PC HWC.  They said they wanted to be sure it didn't need to go to Relay for Life.  I hope they send it directly to ACS.

I called HO and this is what they told me:

1. I did check HWC but I also had a host name in PP (which was the chairperson) and had it C/O me so I could distribute. So I shouldn't have had a name under host at all. However, I did this last year and never received a check. I'm not quire suire what the difference is this year. After talking to HO, I think they are as confused as I am.

2. They told me if you don't mark the HWC button it will not count towards the Breakfast of Caring. (i.e., if you mark it as a fundraiser and the money going to The American Cancer Society as the organization, that will not count towards Breakfast of Caring.)

Bottom Line....you have to mark HWC for it to count for Breakfast of Caring.

3. I kept asking the rep if I marked HWC, is it going to The American Cancer Society because that's what I've been telling my customers. She never really answered that question.

I don't know what's different this year. Why are they calling us. I did the exact same thing this year as last year. I've got 3 more fundraisers to submit and now hope that the check goes to the ACS.

When they called me earlier this week, I told them that, but still got the check.

I'm totally confused at this point.

I think they are calling to double check since I heard of a lot of issues last year.  I know of several people who submitted Relay for Life fundraisers, and had that as the organization.  They did NOT check the HWC fundraiser box, and yet PC processed the fundraiser as HWC and not Relay.  I think they are just covering their bases to be sure they are doing what you really requested.
