Does she do the recipe ahead of time? I've done that and just demoed some products (cuke & lime demo) and in the summer I do recipes that you can just assemble that require no COOKING time....
I've gotten good feedback from both versions of these from my guests. If the recipe takes a while to bake in the oven, I have that in there before guests arrive and then do my spiel while it finishes, then they can eat while I talk aobut a few other products.
I'm offering it to my hosts to see what happens. I tell them they can choose one of my three formats for their show:
A. No Cooking Product Showcase - mini demos throughout the presentation - PC treat is made ahead so guests can eat while watching. B. Cooking Show - the recipe's done from start to finish - good for Real Food - Real Fast or similar shows. This is cooking class style for those who want to learn a recipe to add to their dinner line-up. C. Power Cooking (Chicken Dinners or Soups & Stews - or Camping in Spring/Summer) - PC treat is made ahead to enjoy while watching workshop
So far I have 3 or the No Cooking format booked for September. I also let them know ahead of time what the featured themes and recipes are for each format. So if it's A, I offer a couple of appetizer & dessert options - something easy to prepare or bring along to the show. If it's B, I offer something that's dinner-ish like a stir-fry or main dish salad or a ring, etc. And if it's C, I usually let them know that I'll bring the treat prepared and ask if they want an appetizer or a dessert then give them 2 choices or so - things that travel well.
I also let them know I'll bring the ingredients (especially if it's make-ahead) and will add it to their show order total. That's why I already have the recipe options ready - I choose recipes that are easy to get the ingredients for and not too expensive. If they reach $1000 in sales, the ingredients are FREE. It's only happened once since I started doing it but hey, it was over 1K so it works for me! Plus all my other shows have been over $500 as they strive for free food :)
It's fun and streamlined for me. I always know ahead of time what format I'll be presenting and what recipe I'll be working with.
