Apple-Print Linens :
Set your table with welcome signs of the season
napkins and place mats embellished with striking
apple motifs.
Try printing with other fruits and
veggies, such as pears, carrots,
radishes, and potatoes.
 need :
Apples
Sharp knife
Acrylic paints in apple green and red
Paper plate
Printer paper
Purchased fabric napkins and place mats
Permanent red mark
Instructions:
1. On a cutting surface, cut an apple in half, cutting from the top to the bottom and leaving the stem on one side. Be sure to cut straight and smooth so the apple can be used for printing.
2. Place some paint on a paper plate. Dip the apple half with stem into the paint, saturating the apple and stem. Dab off on paper. Press where desired on a place mat or napkin. Carefully lift from the fabric. Repeat, using desired color of paint. Let the paint dry.
3. Use a permanent marker to write phrases such as "An apple a day..." or "Good for you" on the napkin.

Take a walk in the woods and find nature items to make this Thanksgiving pal.

What You Need:
Wild Turkey

To make the turkey last longer,
spray it with a coat of clear
sealer.
  • Items from nature, such as pinecones, leaves, sticks, pebbles, bark, and seeds
  • Kitchen items, such as bay leaves and dry bean-soup mix
  • Colored poster board
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Small plate
  • Thick white crafts glue

Instructions:
1. First gather items from the outdoors, such as those listed above.
2. Cut poster board to the desired size. On poster board, trace around a small plate for the body shape.
3. Starting at the outside of the circle, glue on small pieces in rows. Create a tail and feet from long pieces of nature items. Use bark for the head. Add eyes, a beak, and a red wattle. Let the glue dry.

Berry Leafy

Sprigs of artificial berries and pretty fall leaves make a statement in red on top of an explosion of twigs. These could also be made as two separate wreaths that are wired together.

Pumpkin Circle

A moss-covered wreath form is the base for a simple lineup of miniature pumpkin-shaped gourds. Make this with real or artificial vegetables. A black ribbon gives it a Halloween look that can later be changed to green or raffia for Thanksgiving.

Gourd Gathering

Gourds with necks were tied with raffia knots and attached to a vine wreath. Berry sprays and a raffia bow complete the wreath.

Dried Flowers

A full wreath of dried flowers is another great look for fall. Though these can be created by experienced do-it-yourselfers, it will be easier to purchase one in a color, style, and size you like.

Fall Welcome Message

Insert seasonal elements into a frame for a unique welcoming touch.

Welcome frame with smashed leaves

Show your guests that you're glad they're here with this simple framed message.

Select a frame for your project. Ours is about 16 inches square. Next, choose some pretty art paper or colored paper and cut it to fit inside the frame.

On a computer, select a beautiful font and print "Welcome" onto the colored paper. No computer? Simply write the message by hand or ask your kids to create it.

Next, using double-sided tape, gently attach pressed leaves to the paper. Insert it into the frame.

Prop it up on an entry table, hang on the front door, or set it out on a small easel or plate holder for all to see.

See a list of materials below.

Materials
  • Picture frame
  • Art paper or colored paper
  • Pressed leaves, or use preserved leaves (ironed flat) from a florist
  • Double-sided tape
  • Computer or calligraphy pen to create the message
