Lennon has a long history of strutting about in Glasgow city centre looking for trouble. In his pomp at C*ltic he used to go clubbing with a team of minders and many an impertinant upstart was dismissed by his bruisers.

There is no defence for these two guys for one reason only, that they continued to punch and kick him when he went down. If it had been restricted to a simple exchange of blows with Lennon getting a second prise after starting it (which witnesses said he did) then perhaps it would have been Lennon in the dock. Because these guys continued to kick him after he went down they deserve everything they got.

The reporting of this incident tonight has been interesting of course. The always impartial BBC  started their report screaming that two RANGERS FANS! (almost shouted) had been found guilty of a brutal assault on Lennon. The report contained not a single word of critisism of Lennon himself despite evidence in court that he was blind drunk and acting aggressively himself. A fine role model for his young fans is our Neil.

RC Radio took the same approach, saying in their headline news that "Two Rangers fans convicted of assault on Lennon". They may well be Rangers fans, but I saw nowhere in any of the factual reporting of the evidence that mentioned Rangers anywhere.

It just seemed like another subliminal way of reintoriducing the sectarian element to the attack, which the court discarded as untrue.

21st century Scotland, I despair.

Such a cutting insult, eh ? Lennon, if he had been a grown up at all, would have just smiled and ignored them, or maybe joked along with them and got them onside. Instead he got to his feet and approached them aggressively. That's the way he's used to dealing with things on the pitch, gesturing to the fans behind the referee's back, spitting on scarves etc. Except this time he didn't have the protection of hundreds of stewards and police.

Well if someone insulted my job that had dominated my career for the past 8 years and the club that he supports it'd be tough to back down and take it on the chin especially after a few drinks on a losing OF night.

The same type of people have threatened him dead and shouted abuse at him during walks in Glasgow City Cetre in datlight on walks with his son. To be hoest there's only so much someone can take and you are in no position to say what he should and shouldn't do as you don't know how his life was effected by this

Ah poor wee put apon Neil. Always the victim and never at fault.

Every player at Rangers and C*ltic suffers this type of attention, not all however look for it and revel in it.

Yes true but compare Nacho Novo and Neil Lennon to Pedro Mendes and Lee Naylor. Some players are far more respected by the opposite side than others. Neil Lennon is very far down in Rangers fans minds. This started from him being a Northern Irish Catholic (deny if you like but we all know the truth). Now, he has got in trouble in Old Firm games but at the time, there wasn't alot that didn't, for example Alan Thompson, Dado Prso, Nacho Novo, Barry Ferguson but because of him being from NI and being a Catholic he gets singled out

Alltims, you believe what you want. The rest of us will stick to the facts.

Tell me one thing, Alltims. If Neil Lennon is treated the way he is because he is a Northern Irish catholic, tell me one thing - why didn't Anton Rogan get the same treatment when he played for Celtic ?

From what i heard he was a quieter player and just simply wasn't as good as Lennon. So i'm sure you'd be quiet and keep your head down if thousands of people subjected you to sectarian abuse for 8 years even in front of your kids at times and even subjected you to death threats because you were given the chance to captain his country

No, sorry Alltims, you can't have it both ways. Credibility problem for your theory here.

What you said was, and I quote :-

.......This started from him being a Northern Irish Catholic (deny if you like but we all know the truth)......

So if that was the truth, then the fact that Anton Rogan was a quieter player and not as good as Lennon is irrelevant. Under your theory, he would have received the same treatment simply because he was a Northern Irish catholic.

Except he didn't. Because he didn't seek it.

While I think that no-one should be subjected to a cowardly attack for which the two thugs concerned got what they deserved surely Lennon should have known better than to venture out after an Old Firm game in Glasgow especially with the way he acted on and off  the field as a player.  Everyone knows that there are many idiot supporters out there from both sides who are always going to get involved like that. There are many players from both sides who are very fervent about their support for their team but you never hear of them getting involved. There are exceptions of course as we have seen over the years.

The reporting of the verdict by the BBC was typical of them as they have shown a bias against Rangers Football Club for quite a number of years now and take every opportunity to twist facts to show us in a bad light. The facts stated at the trial were deemed to be of no importance to them. The media in Scotland make a great issue regarding sectarianism but the truth of the matter is that they take great delight in stoking the fires as it suits their own agendas. It is difficult to get this point over to people outwith Scotland but we have had to live with it for years and you know what, despite valiant efforts by many people in various organisations, the situation will never be resolved.

To give an example of how the media give a slant to their reporting. Some years ago Peter McLoy's brother was involved in some criminal activity, I think it was a bank raid, and the press headlines were along the line of " Peter McLoy's brother in court". There was also the case of Billy Dodds father-in-law being involved in some sort of child abuse but Dodds name was mentioned in the reporting. I'm quite sure the same things have happened to Celtic players as well but I'm afraid this is the climate of modern day Scotland which in my opinion is worse than it was years ago because most of the people reporting now are not real journalists, merely sensationalists. If you have any doubts just listen to the likes of Traynor, Keevins, Chick Young etc and read some of the so called reports in the press.
