I have read this book twice - many years ago when I was a 'tween' and then as a true teenager. I was a bookworm as a kid and I read it both times on my own accord - I enjoyed it very much.  If I remember correctly, there are kids in the book who are transported into other realms for their adventure through murals that are painted on the walls.  It is definitely good for a person who loves adventure, fantasy-type stories, and is old enough to not mind few pictures or a longer book. Like I said, I was a teen when I read it last.
