Read Scriptures: Exodus 23:1-24 - 24:18
Situation: God gave the Israelites guidelines for their relationships with each other and with Him. These guidelines set Israel apart from the other nations. God also gave a special ceremony that confirmed the agreement between God and His people. In the ceremony blood from animals symbolized forgiveness of sin and reconcilliation to God.
Observation: God's people ought to obey the standards that God lays out. One part of this is remembering their special relationship with Him.
Application: God makes several agreements with His people throughout the Bible, concluding with a new covenant in Christ. Communion reminds us that in this covenant. God forgives our sins through Christ. When you participate in communion do not participate lightly. Be humbled by God's grace to you.
