What do we mean by the word Fear? The dictionaries definition is :-

fear
[Show phonetics]
verb
1 [T not continuous] to be frightened of something or someone unpleasant:

2 [not continuous] FORMAL to be worried or frightened that something bad might happen or might have happened:

FORMAL It is feared (that) as many as two hundred passengers may have died in the crash.

[+ to infinitive] Fearing to go herself, she sent her son to find out the news.

3 FORMAL I fear used to give someone news of something bad that has happened or might happen:
[+ (that)] I fear (that) she's already left

However The Bible says, Fears are real and natural, at times more real than that, which we fear. Fears may leave us unsettled, insecure, doubting our self-worth, having sleep problems or health problems, worrying about how tomorrow will treat us or even if there will be a tomorrow. The issue that we want settled is simple --- how do we avoid fear? When we can how do we live with it when we must, and what do we learn from it? What can I do when I am over come by fear? How do I find the strength to go on? We read in Psalm 46:1-2 "God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear, even if earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea". Also we read in John 14:27 "I am leaving you with a gift--- peace of mind and heart --- so don't be troubled or afraid". God promises to comfort us in our fear if we seek him when we are afraid. We have the confident assurance that he is with us in any circumstances. When is fear good? We read in Psalm 2:11 Serve The Lord in reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling". Because God is so great and mighty and because he holds the power of life and death in his hands, we must have a healthy, reverent fear of him. A healthy fear helps keeps our persective about where we need to be in our relationship eith God. In 2 Corinthians 7:1 we read "And let us work toward complete purity because we fear God". A health fear of God motivates us to strive for holiness. In Deuteronomy 31:7-8 we read "Be strong and couragerous! Do not be afraid or discouraged, for The Lord is the one who goes before you". Fear can be good if it teaches about courage, Johua could'nt have truly understood courage, If he had'nt expearienced fear. Fear gave him courageous character and taught him to rely and trust in God. When is fear not good? in Hebrews 10:31 we read "It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God". Fear is terrifying if we have to fall into the hands of God without having made peace with him. In Geneses 26:7 we read He was afraid to admit she was his wife". In Joshua 17:16-18 We read "The Cananites have iron chariots they are to strong for us". Fear is good if it keeps us from doing the things we ought to. We are not meant to live in fear. God makes two promises to us, They are in Leviticus 26:6"God will give you peace". Psalm 91:11 "Gods Angels are watching over you". I will finish by saying this always remember fear cannot takr hold of us if we keep on looking up to the light which is Jesus Christ and the Jesus loves us all and has plans for our lives. Sincerely in Christ. Clive (†_Matched_1?
