In God alone, do I put my trust.
Ps 4:3 But know that the Lord has set apart for Himself [and given distinction to] him who is godly [the man of loving-kindness]. The Lord listens {and} heeds when I call to Him.
Ps 4:4 Be angry [or stand in awe] and sin not; commune with your own hearts upon your beds and be silent (sorry for the things you say in your hearts). Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!
Ps 4:5 Offer just {and} right sacrifices; trust (lean on and be confident) in the Lord.
Ps 4:6 Many say, Oh, that we might see some good! Lift up the light of Your countenance upon us, O Lord.
Ps 4:7 You have put more joy {and} rejoicing in my heart than [they know] when their wheat and new wine have yielded abundantly.
Ps 4:8 In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for You, Lord, alone make me dwell in safety {and} confident trust.
When I lie down at night I sleep undisturbed until morning. When I wake up I am still in His care. The fruit or result of trusting confidently in God "alone" is peace, and rest and confidence. The scripture says, more than when the wheat and new wine have yeilded abundantly. More than whether we have good times or bad; whether we have enough food to eat or can pay our bills and have extra? No matter what our circumstances are, to rest and delight ourselves in God alone is to be set apart, and separate from depending on this world's ways. No matter what is happening around you on this earth, be settled in that place of protection and provision with a unshaking attitude of knowing peace and entering His rest to say to anyone: God alone, God alone causes me to dwell in safety. As things begin to shake around us toward destruction, remain securely trusting in God alone.
