"REPENT"
IF WE SAY WE HAVE NOT SINNED, WE DECEIVE OURSELVES.
Eccl 7:3 Sorrow is better than laughter, for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better {and} gains gladness.
Eccl 7:4 The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth {and} sensual joy.
Eccl 7:5 It is better for a man to hear the rebuke of the wise than to hear the song of fools.
I watched a man about my age trying to piece together the float material for his yearly colorful floats in the Mardi Gras parade. He said "it was his life." Losing his home did not matter but when his float material was ruined in his warehouse, he felt lost.
Partying, is famous and more popular than repentance and New Orleans has not even dried off yet to the truth. One truth people forget is from the beginning of time, many innocent suffer because of the sin of those who refuse to repent. Today is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. Many people call today "Mardi Gras," which is French for "Fat Tuesday." It was the day when people would have "their fill" so to speak of rich, fatty foods and have parties, sex in the streets, and much excess; and all because....lent began the next day for 40 days, yes, of lent, which does not include Sundays, they refrained from eating meat, butter, and other rich foods. Many even brag about the pounds they lose from giving up sweets during lent and this is the one year we need to wise up.
Sinful flesh always knows a day of partying is much more popular than a day of somber reflection and sorrow for our sins. Many people think that any focus on our sins is unhealthy, judgmental, and leads to depression so we should avoid that of course? The word of God shows us that pondering our sins and asking God for forgiveness is wholesome and beneficial. God is pleased when we sit in the house of mourning. a metaphor for repentance. Being in the house of mourning also means pondering our lost condition.
We should grieve on the day before lent begins, for our sinful disobedience and reflect on Christ's sacrifice for our sin. Yes, we can through grace and mercy rejoice because of the blood of Jesus Christ for our salvation, and yes we can have victory during this next 40 days as we seek to have God shine His mirror of reflection in our lives.
We praise Jesus for the pardon He gives us purely out of God loving us so much, he gave the life of His only begotten son to teach us, that we need to cease from dead works, and the sins of the flesh, and not think of Mardi Gras as a "pig out time", but to know the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom and seek to repent.
