'Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!' Matthew 7:7-11 NIV

Children "ask" for things different then adults and some children ask for what they want in different ways. I had four sons. One son would in a soft voice beat around the bush in a slow speech pattern but not really "ask" for much. I had to push one son down the center of the isles at stores because his hands would be grabbing for everything  he saw as I went along shopping.  Some would say, "I want"  and some say, "get me that" and some just take what they want even though its not good for them.  In this verse we learn there is no certain way we approach the Father with our needs except to ask. In one passage, Jesus said; "ask so you will receive, until now you have not asked, ask so you will receive so that your joy will be full." Jesus did not want us holding back from asking, but we hold back the Lord's blessings some days by "not" asking HIM for our needs. This was taught usually by parents who wanted control and you had to beg them for what you wanted. God is not like a man and He says to us in this verse, How much more...???  will He give? Test Him without greed in your heart and ask God to give you what you need, what you want, what you desire, and let HIM give you the desires of your heart.   how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!'
