Ask the Lord

by Pastor Simon

If you maintain a living communion with me and my words are at home in you, I command you to ask, at once, something for yourself, whatever your heart desires, and it will become yours.

John 15:7 - Wuest's Translation

On one occasion I was feeling just a bit down in my day. I tried unsuccessfully to shake it off. I asked the Lord, "What is this I'm going through?" He answered me with part of a proverb, "Hope deferred makes the heart sick" and then prompted me, "Look up the rest of the verse." I read, "But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life". I was encouraged by this. It made me realise that desires in Christ can't always happen overnight as there's usually a building process involved. Nevertheless, if I endure the desire will come. Indeed, when it comes it will be as a tree of life to me bearing fruit.

The Lord delights to give us the desire of our hearts. He counts this no risk because when you are as His child maintaining a living communion with Him and His words are at home in you then He knows your heart will be filled with longings that are heavenly. He knows the desires of your heart will be as the desires of His heart for those desires will be originating from Him. Psa.37:4, Psa.145:19.

In order to grant us these desires the Lord presents us with the precious promise at the top. It is a promise one can only marvel at that God would make to us. It comes out of His love for us. It comes from that very same love that urged Him to deliver up His Son for us. He freely gave us His Son and out of the same love He gives us this precious promise. Follow its exhortation and conditions and then present this promise to the Lord in prayer as you make request for your heart's desire. Ro.8:32.

Request your desire from the Lord
