1 Thess 5:16 Be happy [in your faith] {and} rejoice {and} be glad-hearted continually (always);
1 Thess 5:17 Be unceasing in prayer [praying perseveringly];
1 Thess 5:18 Thank [God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks], for this is the will of God for you [who are] in Christ Jesus [the Revealer and Mediator of that will].
1 Thess 5:19 Do not quench (suppress or subdue) the [Holy] Spirit;
1 Thess 5:20 Do not spurn the gifts {and} utterances of the prophets [do not depreciate prophetic revelations nor despise inspired instruction or exhortation or warning].
1 Thess 5:21 But test {and} prove all things [until you can recognize] what is good; [to that] hold fast.
1 Thess 5:22 Abstain from evil [shrink from it and keep aloof from it] in whatever form {or} whatever kind it may be.
1 Thess 5:23 And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [separate you from profane things, make you pure and wholly consecrated to God]; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved sound {and} complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah).
1 Thess 5:24 Faithful is He Who is calling you [to Himself] {and} utterly trustworthy, and He will also do it [fulfill His call by hallowing and keeping you]

There used to be many hymns and chorus's sung in church about being thankful, and about Heaven. Many churches do not even sing songs about the blood of Jesus as well as you hardly hear any preaching about simply being thankful for salvation, for your food, clothing, and shelter. Our day to day provision, (just like the mannah that rotted if they tried to save it), was supposed to be "just that." Today you can hear whole church services with talks about money, prospering, and they have become like mega country clubs of entertainment. Thoughts more to conforming churches into auditoriums with all the latest "world stuff toys." One church I know of installed six televisions, game systems, and tables for games; a stereo system, and opened it up one hour before church for the teens to have fun in. The teens soon did not even come into the sanctuary for worship. We are compromising and we do not see it. We are wanting more and more and we do not notice it. We are not heeding exhortation from the word of God, and are not testing the spirits to see if they are "of God." He wants to sanctify your life and His glory He will not share. Let Him separate  you from profane things for it is HIS work in you, for HIS purposes. Test all things so you can recognize those things which are good, and live in a state of rest, peace, and thankfulness. The interesting thing that happens is this. You begin to rise up each day, having a trust in God for all things, so your spirit, soul and body will be sound, complete, and blameless as you "test, and prove," all things, and "be thankful."
