John 12:24 I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains [just one grain; it never becomes more but lives] by itself alone. But if it dies, it produces many others {and} yields a rich harvest.
John 12:25 Anyone who loves his life loses it, but anyone who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal. [Whoever has no love for, no concern for, no regard for his life here on earth, but despises it, preserves his life forever and ever.]
John 12:26 If anyone serves Me, he must continue to follow Me [to cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying] and wherever I am, there will My servant be also. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.
John 12:27 Now My soul is troubled {and} distressed, and what shall I say? Father, save Me from this hour [of trial and agony]? But it was for this very purpose that I have come to this hour [that I might undergo it].
John 12:28 [Rather, I will say,] Father, glorify (honor and extol) Your [own] name! Then there came a voice out of heaven saying, I have already glorified it, and I will glorify it again.

So then a so called "Christian" is to consider themselves "dead" once they come up out of the water of baptism. The only way to give life to the gospel that saves you, is to die to this life and to consider yourself dead. You lost it some of you in your effort to have such a comfortable existance on this planet which belongs to the evil one. Fine church buildings like country clubs for the nice place to be comfortable and usually out and away from where any "new" people would drift in off the streets. When a apple falls off the tree and the worms cause it to decay and the seeds bring forth new life, that was how Jesus wanted people to be. To die to being a creature comfort minded person with all the world's toys, and to feel the cold for the homeless and to take care of the elderly and to bring the good news to the people you are passing by on the streets without saying hello because they are not "of" your church group? Why are you making your own decisions as if you are supposed to be running your life? You are to have no concern or regard for your life here on earth. The lillies don't labor, the birds don't sow, and yet you are to consider your "self"  "dead" for your Father's glory and honor...so die to this world and live for Jesus, but consider yourself a "dead" seed.
