John 16:22 So for the present you are also in sorrow (in distress and depressed); but I will see you again and [then] your hearts will rejoice, and no one can take from you your joy (gladness, delight).
John 16:23 And when that time comes, you will ask nothing of Me [you will need to ask Me no questions]. I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that My Father will grant you whatever you ask in My Name [as presenting all that I AM].
John 16:24 Up to this time you have not asked a [single] thing in My Name [as presenting all that I AM]; but now ask {and} keep on asking and you will receive, so that your joy (gladness, delight) may be full {and} complete.
John 16:25 I have told you these things in parables (veiled language, allegories, dark sayings); the hour is now coming when I shall no longer speak to you in figures of speech, but I shall tell you about the Father in plain words {and} openly (without reserve).
John 16:26 At that time you will ask (pray) in My Name; and I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf [for it will be unnecessary].
John 16:27 For the Father Himself [tenderly] loves you because you have loved Me and have believed that I came out from the Father.
John 16:28 I came out from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and going to the Father.
John 16:29 His disciples said, Ah, now You are speaking plainly to us and not in parables (veiled language and figures of speech)!
John 16:30 Now we know that You are acquainted with everything and have no need to be asked questions. Because of this we believe that you [really] came from God.
John 16:31 Jesus answered them, Do you now believe? [Do you believe it at last?]

One other passage Jesus responds to the deciples; "how long must I put up with you." He told Thomas for example, to touch His wounds when He had risen. The words; Lord help me with my unbelief apply to following the tender promptings of the voice of the Holy Spirit. These men were with Jesus in person and yet still had such a hard time believing in who Jesus was. Until now, Jesus said,,until now meaning things are about to change and I am leaving now to go to the Father so you can ask Him because I brought you to Him. Because you love Jesus, the Father loves you and cares for you as His own. Jesus is now seated at the right hand of God making intersessory prayers for you as you have believed in Jesus as your messiah, your savior, your Lord and king. Without parables Jesus did not speak so that those who thought they understood did not. Jesus spoke openly to these men as to the sad truth they would be scattered and would suffer much for the sake of the kingdom of God. Most of us know this chapter because Jesus goes on to remind them that he told them these things so that they would have peace. In the world you shall have troubles, trials, distress, and frustration  but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.] Paul admonishes us to "let" the peace of God rule and reign in our hearts. Jesus said, my peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you, not as the world gives you, Jesus said. (There will be no peace on earth but tribulation and as you see the day approaching, guard your peace and do not let your life be drawn in to the fast paced ways of this world.) Hold fast to the peace of Jesus and rest your life in His hands. The interesting thing for me in this passage is this. When Jesus spoke this to them, the Holy Spirit opened their eyes and ears to have understanding so that they would know Jesus was going to the Father but they would not be alone. Instead, they responded as if Jesus was finally going to speak in words they did understand. Up until this time, the deciples went directly to Jesus and asked Him questions, and now Jesus is still saying to us, ask the Father now that I am with the Father, for Jesus brought us where no man could come unto God except through "Him." Let us approach His throne boldly and ask so that we may receive, so our joy will be full. Peace and joy are deep rivers to flow strength and rest to the soul and this world can not touch that or change that.
