Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. See what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done. At every point you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter. So even though I wrote to you, it was neither on account of the one who did the wrong nor on account of the injured party, but rather that before God you could see for yourselves how devoted to us you are. By all this we are encouraged. In addition to our own encouragement, we were especially delighted to see how happy Titus was, because his spirit has been refreshed by all of you. 2 Corinthians 7:10-13 TNIV

Have you ever had someone continue to say they were sorry as a pattern in their life? They casually drop that phrase and go on to do the same things again. It is almost as if some think saying I am sorry changes how "YOU" feel about what they did. When someone sins against us and asks forgiveness we really should not say; "oh that's ok." There is a process of sorrow which goes deeper than the glib use of the word sorry. Delighted, happy, refreshed and encouraged are words in the above scripture Paul describes they were because of this person's repentence. Yesterday I heard a speaker tell the people to repent and was thinking; " I do not remember hearing repent from a preachers mouth since I was little. Everyone wants everyone to feel good, to just say sorry and go on with no turn about change within them. When I was a little girl, preachers would never end a sermon without calling people up front to repent. They would say, you might be here today and slept with another mans wife last night. You might be here and been religious all your life but never asked Jesus to come into your heart and be born again. Today, we live in a very impersonal world where anything goes and as Christians we have allowed ourselves to get sucked into the ways of the world. The preachers who said, " don't leave this building and go out into eternity lost when you can repent and deal with your sin right now, come up here."
There is not enough room at the front of the churches for those who leave the building saying they are sorry. Godly sorrow goes deeper than sorry, and  brings repentance process that over time, leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.
