Topic: +DEV+ God Is Immutable
God Is Immutable
Scripture Focus: Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8
"The heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but
you remain. . . . . Like clothing you will change them and they will
be discarded, but you remain the same" (Psalm 102:25-27).
God declares His immutability by calling Himself "I am who I am"
(Exodus 3:14). We don't have to worry about God turning on us or
abandoning us. His character remains the same throughout eternity.
Love, life, and light flow from Him forever.
God cannot improve, because He is already perfect. He cannot
deteriorate, because He is almighty. Some scientist will never find an
undiscovered fact that will convince God to change His plan. God asks
a question about Himself, "Does he promise and not fulfill?"
(Numbers 23:19) God's immutability ensures His promises. It will
always be true that Christ's sinless life and sacrificial death is the
way to forgiveness.
Though God's character and plan will never change, His methods may.
His children's prayers have caused changes through the years. By
searching the Scriptures, we learn to pray in His will and for His
glory. Then we can pray in faith, knowing His answer will harmonize
with His plan.
"I the Lord do not change" (Malachi 3:6).
Insight: The world
will only change when people let God change their hearts to beat in
harmony with His.
