God Is Kind
Scripture Focus: Psalms 36:7, 10; 117
"Because thy loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall
praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live; I will lift up my
hands in thy name" (Psalm 63:3-4, kjv).
I read once about two lepers who were separated from society and
treated badly. They received only a small amount of rice to eat and
barely kept from starving. When a third leper was thrown into their
room, the two kindly shared what they had.
This makes any acts of kindness we do seem small; yet Jesus recognizes
and rewards whatever we do in His name and for His glory.
Old Testament writers often mention God's kindness to us and praise
Him for it. Jesus acted out God's kindness, and it is far beyond any
humanitarian actions.
Jesus commanded His followers, "Love your enemies, do good to
them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then
your reward will be great, and you will be the sons of the Most High,
because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked" (Luke 6:35).
What a great picture of the kindness God shows us. We can only obey
His command by letting God work in us and through us. He alone is
truly kind.
Insight: Kindness is
like salt. It makes a bland life more palatable. It also melts icy
hearts.
