God’s Will For Me - Part 3

Heb 10:28 Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
You may be curious why I used the Scripture above in a Meditation on finding God’s will in your life. I’m using it because God obviously places a lot of importance "on the testimony of two or three witnesses!" And He often uses "two or three witnesses" to confirm what He has already asked you to do.
I can personally relate to that, as before this stubborn old farm boy gave in to God, and did what He asked me to do, people would often come up to me and say, "Russ, you ought to be preaching!" I usually had a cute answer for them, but that’s a different Meditation.
So today, I want to let you know that when God confirms what you believe He has told you, then it's time to step out in faith. There will be times in your life when you simply have to take that first step of faith, and when you do, God will confirm his plan for you as you go. However, in order for God to bless your "step of faith," you obviously must first take a "step!"
Also, God understands your human weakness, and when you sincerely seek Him, and are willing to obey his word, he will usually affirm His will for you in several ways. And He will frequently confirm His direction for you, in the same way he revealed it to you in the first place, through one of these five ways:
1. Prayer: We need to seek God in prayer. Remember that Jesus said, "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."(Luke 11:9) If God has promised to supply all your "need,"(Phil 4:9) don’t you think that He will also make it perfectly clear to you exactly what He wants you to do? Therefore, "ask!" Yes my friend, if you’ll truly seek God's will, you’ll find it.
2. His word. Sometimes as you struggle for God's guidance, a Scripture that you have read will seem to jump out at you, confirming which way God wants you to go. Have you forgotten that God’s Word "is a lamp to [your] feet and a light to [your] path?"(Psa 119:105) Therefore, allow God's word to illuminate your pathway.
3. Circumstances: Events will sometimes indicate God's direction for us. Paul wrote about such a circumstance in his life, and in Acts 16:6, we can read how "when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia."
And in another instance, when he "came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened to [him] by the Lord."(2 Cor 2:12) But both instances had one thing in common; Paul was moving; he was going in the direction which he believed God wanted him to go. My friend, as you seek God's direction, events may establish what you have already believed God is telling you to do.
4. Your heart: God will sometimes speak to your heart. Jesus promised that "when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come."(John 16:13)
Did the words "all truth" and "things to come" jump out at you? They should, as certainly "things to come" must include God’s will for your life! Let’s take a journey back through time, and observe as Elijah "went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?""(1 Ki 19:9)
Listen as God told him to "Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord." And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice."(V:11,12)
Did you get that? Did the words, "a still small voice" jump up and rap you along side your hard head? (Smile) I want to point out something that should be obvious: "You can’t hear "a still small voice" unless you are quite and listen. That "still small voice" speaks directly to your soul, not your ears!
5. Others: Many times when you’re struggling with indecision, God will use others to affirm His will. Sometimes a song will speak to you, or God will use a Pastor's message. Often a friend will speak to you and, not even being aware of your struggle, and will speak words of encouragement which will help solidify our decision.
Other times, someone on the radio, or even these Daily Meditations will proclaim God's answer to you. My friend, God uses His whole church body to minister to each other.
And finally, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom!"(Col 3:16) Yes, God will speak to you in a manner of His choosing.
Listen for His "still small voice."
You’ll hear it!
