God Is Merciful
Scripture Focus: Luke 18:9-14
"Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so
that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of
need" (Hebrews 4:16).
God has always been merciful, but our sin made His mercy available. He
was prepared to forgive before there was a need for it. Mercy is the
only attribute God has that He didn't use before sin required it. Yet
"He was and is" full (satiated, bursting) with mercy.
God's tender mercies are new every morning. When we recognize our sin
and beg Him for mercy, He forgives us. Each day we can have a clean
paper to write our life stories.
We can receive God's forgiveness, forgive ourselves, rejoice, and move
ahead. We can sing praises to the One who became sin so we could
become holy. We can thank the One who suffered condemnation, so we
could receive acceptance. We can walk away from the chains that bound
us to sin, and embrace the strong bond of love that ties us to our
loving Father. We can run with patience the race that lies before us.
We can rest in Him and drink freely of His living water. We can live
life to its fullest because of His great mercy.
Insight: Like God, we should forgive and then forget what it is we
have forgiven.
