God Is Powerful
Scripture Focus: Isaiah 40:29-31
"Shout with joy to God, all the earth! . . . Say to God, How awesome
are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before
you. All the earth bows down to you" (Psalm 66:1, 3-4).
A tornado in our area took a friend's house, along with many others.
They found nothing except a shotgun, which obviously had not been able
to protect them from the powerful wind. Rubble laid deep for miles,
and we saw strange sights like a straw driven through a tree. Yet the
wind's power is like a puff of air compared
to God's
power.
"It is a dreadful thing to fall into the
hands of the living God"
(Hebrews 10:31). Unless this powerful God is your loving Father, full
of mercy and grace.
People often crave political power, physical power, or some other type
of power. Often they step on others to gain the power and misuse it
once they have it. Only the Lord God Almighty is worthy to possess
power. His love controls His power, for "God is love" (1
John 4:8).
Love's power builds up, sustains, and
protects. God never misuses His power or abuses those under His
control. People experience miraculous changes after Love's power moves over them.
Has Love's power
changed you?
Insight: Let's pray
that the power of Love will replace the love of power we see all
around us.
