Oh how I wish this had been better news. Did the vet not think tubes could be inserted so he could drain? His problem is likely much different than Skeeter's Oliver but I had hopes that a similar surgery would help him. Bless you and Sniffles. Hope things get better. Annie |

I had hoped for better news. There is a variety of formulas for helping to keep a bird up when things are not right or they are ill. Lafeber has the largest selection for each need. The nutri-support or carbo boost might be a good idea to supplement until the appetite is back.

Hi all... well, Managed to get the one sinus drained. Its the one that was acting up. Naturally it takes 2 people to do this but managed to get the creepin' crud out and the swelling went right down. The vet had put a drain like hole in the bottom of the cheek(or should i say under the sinus cavity) and helps drain the ickies... so with alittle help from a family memeber and warm wet wash cloth we got the drainage hole to open and the icks came out! Face of a bird now til it happens again. Thou I do wonder if this antibiotic thing will be an on going thing. Since He seems to be needing it often Haley |

Bless you for your willingness to take on the responsibility of a sick bird. Glad the drainage helped. Maybe daily warm moist packs will help to keep the hole open so he can drain before it gets so bad. Annie |

We may have talked about this on earlier posts regarding Sniffles, but I'll still mention it just in case...2 of my birds were on antibiotics for quite a while last spring, and some of the ladies here recommended using BeneBac to help keep their intestinal tracts in balance. I know it's "one more thing" to have to deal with when you are dealing with so much, especially when Sniffles doesn't feel like eating, but it's good stuff. Hugs to your family members for helping out....2 hands often isn't enough when working with our birds when they're sick. I'm with Annie....bless you for taking care of this little guy. Barb |

I am one of those who uses Benebac gel every time they are on antibiotics. It's so easy to dose. The tube has little indentations and you twist it to the proper dose for your bird's weight. The vet can tell you what dosage is needed. I also have it in powder form. If you like to go more natural, live bacteria yogurt is good to keep the digestive tract working properly during antibiotic therapy. Annie |

I am glad to hear it has been drained. I am presuming a culture had been done to be sure the antibiotic is the correct one, and then agree that support of pro biotics and or antifungals is sometimes needed. I am still reading older sections (threads/) to learn the history of Sniffles, but I am glad you are helping with a needing bird. Lafeber has supportive care products, call and talk to one of the ladies to find out if one is better fitted to your needs. Greys need higher calcium and a few other things as I recall. I had to flush a birds sinus for over a month daily and sometimes twice with meds so I know how stressing this can be. I also know that if we could grow another set of arms, handling bird problems would also be a lot easier.

I'm so glad he's in a home where he is properly cared for.....lots of people would have given up. I bet he's feeling better without that pressure on his face and I bet that makes you feel better too. Just seeing what you are doing is helping makes a huge difference. Good work! |
