Female canaries don't sing, just a few chirps and cheeps now and then.  Male canaries will occasionally sit on a nest, usually it's the hen that sits on the egg.  We have one male that will sit on the eggs even to the extent of sitting on the hen if she is already there.  They look funny with both trying to sit on the small nest at the same time.

 

Male canaries are also (usually) good parents and do a lot of the feeding of the youngsters.
