I talked to Gails husband Ken today and he wants me to take her BEToo, named Goofy. The bird was given to her 5 or 6mo ago because he was loud. I don't even know how old he is. I looked it up on th web, but I'd still like to hear from anyone who has any first hand info on these birds. Thanks, Peggy

Maybe I can help you. I have had the sweetest BETOO for 5 years! She wasn't like that for a year or so, but worth all of my and my husband's patience and even tears from the both of us a couple of times. She is awesome!
Any ?'s about Bare eyes,  feel free to ask me and I will share my experiences with my baby Rosebud.

Thanks for your response. I think you must be the only person on here with a BE. I have 7 birds and they enclude a Goffins and a UToo. Gail was my dearest friend for many years and she passed away on Tuesday. She wanted me to have Goofy so I am going to pick him up on Sat. I don't know one thing about him except that he was given to her because he was loud. I know when he screamed, her husband would bang on the cage bars and yell at him, thereby making it worse. He won't have to worry about that here. I will be his 3rd home in 6mo so the poor little guy must really be confused. I've heard these birds are very smart and pretty good talkers. I've also heard them compared to Goffins. My Goffins, DJ, is a sweety most of the time and a real clown. I would like any general info on them and you can e-mail if you want. Thanks, Peggy

So sorry over the loss of your girlfriend Gail before I say anything else. How long did you know each other?
You also are the first person that will have a BE that I know! We can compare notes as time goes by.
Rosebud was my first exotic bird. I also have 7 birds all together. Magic number you think? LOL!
Like I said my husband Gary and I had a rough spell with Rosebud. She was in a petshop for several months. You know how it is there for any animal. People poking through the cage bars and scaring the daylights out of the poor sweet animals and birds. She just took my breath away the day I started to talk to her. I fell totally in love with her.
Toos are so affectionate by nature anyways.
She was a handfull for a while though. She screamed and was so loud most of the day. She was so stressed and we were at our our wits end not knowing what we could do to calm her down. She had become a nipper for a short stretch also. I actually had to teach her to be calm. Funny though, she really taught me! Go figure huh.
You already know that screaming and carrying on with ANY bird does not do any good. Rosebud will just scream right back at anyone who tries to yell at her! She just cracks us up sometimes. They are very much like the Goffin. Comical for sure!
The most important ingrediant in calming any screaming bird is LOTS of calmness from anyone that is around Goofy. Get close to him, even if through the cage, and talk quietly and pet him as much as he will allow. You will see a gradual change in the screaming. It will become less and less. Have faith in yourself. You obviously have alot of love to give and Goofy will suck it up and give it right back to you tenfold.
Please keep me updated! I really care and if I can be of any help don't hesitate to ask OK?
Good luck!
Donna

Peggy - you are so lucky.  I just love bare-eyed Toos and hope to get one someday. I was in a Bird store last month and was making a fuss over a baby bare eyed and as I left the bird room it sidled down the playgym and started following me out of the room.  It was so hard to walk away ! if my friend was not there to drag me out by the collar- I know I would have walked out with that baby!  Oh well, I can only dream for now...keep us posted on Goofy's progress.

Congratulations Peggy and I know you'll love this guy.. I used to raise them and they are quite a handful since they are so mischievous, even more so than the Goffin and can be tricky little escape artists, or at least my breeders were... friendly as can be,  talkative and just plain fun to be around... Very intelligent so keep lots of locks and workable toys handy.... Too2
