Oh boy! I hate asking another question, but felt if was important. Every time I'm in the room next to my bed room I hear "Silkee" cough/sneeze (not sure which)it sounds like its both, I go in there and set on the bed and talk with her but she does not do it when I'm in the room, As most of you know I have had trouble getting her to take a bath, so I started spraying her yesterday, Could this be due to the dry house, since it is winter and the house is awful dry? She seems to feel fine and playing exc..., There is no nasal discharge, stools looks fine, we did just have a work up done at the Vet. She sleeps in our bedroom and I do not hear her do it at night. Thanks again, HC

HC  it's a sneeze because birds don't cough unless they are mimicing someone. And birds do sneeze for the same reasons that we do, which is not necessarily a cold or infection but nostrils are dry etc.

I would keep listening and if it seems excessive to you by all means contact your vet. Nan

I am not sure about this, and I definitely don't want to downplay the need for a medical checkup if it is warranted... but I am wondering if Silkee is using a "fake" sneeze to train you ?

Next time you hear her sneeze from the nearby room, try NOT going in there right away.  See if perhaps she sneezes again.  It could be Silkee is mimicing a sneeze (as opposed to other birds squawking/ screaming) because she knows it will bring you into the room and get her some attention ??

She seems worse this morning, but as soon as I go in there she quits she is really putting it on the top shelve this morning, Going to call Vet and see what she thinks, I read some where they do not show that they are sick, and covers it up. What could this be a sign of?, Like I said she does not show any signs of being sick. HC

Happy,  I do think you need to call your vet and increase the humidity.  I use a vaporizer in the room with my birds because my amazon sneezes a lot during the winter.  She is prone to upper respiratory infections and keeping the room humidity above 65 %  helps her.  My other birds don't seem to be as affected by low humidity as Julie is.  Ask your vet's opinion on which kind of humidifier to use.  There are warm mist, cool mist and regular old time vaporizers.  Vaporizers are the cheapest but may not have an automatic cutoff when they run dry, so they have to be watched.

Hey gang, just got back from the Vet.'s office,I called her first thing this morning, Had to take a lot of new test. She is still coughing, She does not think she has a upper resportory infection, and has not ruled out she is coughing for attention, but does not think that is it, she will have the test back tomorrow afternoon, had to leave her with the Vet. for a week because she wants to make sure there is nothing going on, and we are leaving for our job at Texoma for the summer, and in the RV we cannot keep the birds apart, Also she would be there with her so she could treat her with what she needs. Needless to say we are not happy about it, But we have "cricket" to consider also, so why have two sick birds in stead of one. I already miss the little toot, I know she thinks her mom and dad have left her for good. Boy do I feel bad. Will keep you posted. HC

Happy,  I hope all is well with her.
We used to have a houseboat at Catfish Bay, and then at Soldier Creek. We are in Oklahoma.  Hubby still goes down there many weekends to see friends but I dont go anymore.  Small world, huh?

the same is happening to my roommates cockatoo...
i dont exactally know where he is but i have not seen him ina long time, the bird is in my house basement and gets attention whenever theres people down here (which is a lot i might add) but he woke me up this morning with it, and he closes his eyes and shakes and drops his food and i am quite worried, especially because hes just a baby! (3-5 i think) he may as well be my bird, because i do care more, but i dont know if i have the money for him to go to the vet... i know i dont please help!!!

Miss Mango's vet is always asking if she's sneezing more than usual.   I take her every 6 months for her grams staining and thats always when he asks about the sneezing.  I didnt think birds could cough though(like nan said unless its a mimic).....I've only heard Mango make the sound of regurgitating but never coughing....
I hope all is well and you find out whats going on soon.

That cockatoo needs to be moved out of the basement, into a room with fresh air.  Basements are too damp/moldy/mildewy for birds.  And those symptoms definitely warrant a visit to the vet.  Borrow the money or whatever you need to do.  He is not well.  I have been through an illness in a bird which was brought on by mold and it's a serious thing.

I agree with Goodbird. Get that bird out of the basement. That's no place of any critter, but especially not a bird. He really needs to see a vet. Beg, borrow, or steal, but get him to the Dr.
