Our society finches all moved to a new nest. One that the zebra finch had 4 eggs in. They laid more eggs and then sat on them all and so far I have seen they have three babies now but it is hard to get a good look with all three of them sitting on the babies.
The zebra finches have decided they hate all my nests and our building their own(they don't seem to be real good at it but maybe it will turn into something eventually). However she lays eggs almost ever night in the first nest that the society finches used and has about 9 eggs in there and then in another nest on the other side of the cage are 4 eggs. I have no idea if she laid those or the spice finches might have. None of them are sitting on any of these eggs however.

I think those birds are confused.
Silly things.
I wonder if maybe you should separate that one that lays daily? She could deplete her calcium and get in trouble. (I can't remember if we have discussed her calcium intake.)

Seperating her sounds like a good idea. If you plan on breeding them, you might want to put each pair in their own cage so you know who is doing what and can adjust feed accordingly (ie more calcium to one laying alot, more soft foods for those with babies, etc) If you don't want to breed put males in one cage, females in another.

Well, I provide calcium by two cuttle bones in the cage and some grit and the one zebra finch female eats a lot of it so I don't think she will beome depleted and I provide soft egg food every day along with sprouted seeds and fresh grass seeds so   that  the ones feeding babies can provide for them. I really don't think it is so technical that you have to separate them all. I provide whatever they could need and they eat whatever they do need. I just wonder why she doesn't sit on any of these nests and will she sit on the one she and the male are building if they ever get it done?

Got a better peek in the nest today and there are 4 babies in there  not three.
