That is normal finch behavior. When I had my finches, I kept all the males in a separate cage from the females, and would see that occasionally. You didn't say so, but is the finch who is nipping the other's tail the same one who is doing the mating attempts? I have seen a male zebra finch chase/pluck a female who wasn't interested in him... If you notice that one of them is getting plucked or harassed to the point that he can't relax, eat, drink, etc. then you might have to separate them for awhile until the agressor gets over his "mood". Hope this helps a bit. |

Yes, the same finch who nips the tail is doing the humping...They both are eating, drinking and sleeping normally...I was just concerned that this behavior was wrong...Thanks for the info. |
