i was wondering why is my male zebra finch picking on the female hes never did this before he actually plucked some of her feathers from under her neck should i seperate them

Well The pair probably wants to breed but doesnt have a nest. if they have that or not thell start to try to find nesting material. I suggest you go to finchniche.com, that has alot of information on finches and is my main reference site. The person who made it, myra, is really helpfull and has alot more exierience then me. She normally answere e-mail

If the pair is plucking i think its only going to get worse.
I suggest seperate them.

l have lady goulian finichs and thats is what l had to do to mine.......was seperate them both ........the male was holding the female bye a feather one time .....l said thats it ......so now he calls to her .......she looked stressed and tired ......looks really good now .........l think l have all the females seperated from the males now ........but l did have a nest in there at the time .........which they had two chicks in the nest .......he was pretecting the nest l think .........but he brought them up just fine on his own .....the chicks are now 3 months old .....have there color and chirping like crazy .......all in all a good batch.

hi there
i was wondering since your finch had babies before well my female zebra is getting fatter.could she be carrying eggs in her right now.how long after they mate do they lay their eggs cause there isnt any in nest yet.thanks so much
