HI everyone, again.I'm interested in knowing what having a quaker is like.We are looking for another bird and Bev has become interested in learning about quakers.Could you all please tell us what they are like?? Their personalities, etc.Any input would be great!! We have all ready asked the love bird owners about their birds and got great responses!! We haven't decided exactly what we want yet,but when we do we want to know as much as possible!!We all ready have a bare eyed 'too and had a 'tiel which we recently lost so we know about the basic ins and outs of having birds. We are interested in knowing what kind of a bird the quaker is.Good and bad!! Once again,I'm asking the "EXPERTS".Thanx everyone.

ROCKATOO (steve and bev)

I have owned and raised quakers for about 6years now and I can tell you each one is different from the next.  They are wonderful birds. almost all of my breeders talk at least a little.  The babies are very sweet and comical.  They go thru the terrible two's at about six months, but with
care and training they do get thru it. I have a 7 year old as a pet that didn't make a breeder.  They can be very bossy but with firmness and consistency they make great companions. There's nothing quite like a quaker purring with contentment to let you know you are loved.

There's not a lot that I can add to all of the encouragement that you have been getting about Quakers. Ours will be two in June and he makes us laugh every day. He plays games, whistles, talks, laughs, and he needs to, he yells at me...by name. He's good with strangers and remembers people well. I'm his favorite...the leader of his flock...but he's good with everyone else as well.As you know from your other birds, the key to success begins with a good breeder and how the bird is treated as a baby. Good luck and let us know what happens. Rick & Ram Ram

Hey Rockatoo and BevThe DNA was sent and the results are in Moses  is now moesha. My children love her all the same but I think they were taken aback about this. It is so strange to say she when you are so use to saying he. But this does go on in the birdie world.

Hi Rockatoo and Bev. Do you realize that my son has half a dozen of those little monster cousins and they would be happy to make the trip north. Or maybe I would be happy if they'd make it. I am Fid sitting the little green devils and with picking on my toes, attacking my bare feet as I pass by, from saying "move" out of the way I am getting stressed here. They have the run of the house just now and that is because putting them in a cage causes the most God awful noise. They never stop talking, repeat every word good or bad and I hope my son can clean up the language when he returns. All have biblical names and after a stay with me, church is in order. Congrats on Maxi. I have heard they are called the bull dog of Fids and for good reason. They are fearless. TooLady

Hi Rockatoo,  I can attest to the fact that every Quaker is different.  I found my first.  He was loose, and came to me.  He was so great that I got another a few years later.  When I got the first, I grabbed every Quaker book I could find, but Archy didn't do any of the things the book said Quakers do.   Well, Metoo was an education!  He not only read the book, and memorized it, but he added his own embelishments!  Make no mistake, I wouldn't give up my little green dragons for all the world, but the contrast between these two really shows Quaker diversity vividly.  By the way, did you know that Quakers are the only parrot type that builds a nest?
Aeowyn

Congrats on your new little bundle of green feathers!  Quakers are amazing birds aren't they?  Pippin, my green quaker, loves to play with my dog amazingly enough since he thinks he could take her on any day.  He's even tried to attack a harlequin macaw!  Periwinkle is a blue mutation quaker and has a very different personality.  Shes more of a "follower" and has become Pippin's devoted sidekick.  Oops, I mean hes not shes.  Lol, we just got our two sexed and they turned out to both be boys!  I kep looking at Peri and saying, "Peri, you're a boy!" to which he would get fluffy and giggle.  Can you believe that?

Hello to everyone   I am from Ontario, Canada and am new to the group.  I bought a quaker from a rescue group and after the many bites i got, i am happy to say Quazi is doing much beter.  The only complaint i have is his constant screaming.  Why is he doing it and is that a Quaker thing?  He gets alot of attention but if he is not with me wow he lets me know how he feels.  I don't go to him when he screams, just when he is quite i go and tell him he is a good boy etc.  He now has my cockatiel screaming with him lol and the budgie has picked it up too.  Some times my house is very noisy.  I understand the big birds making all that noise but a little itty bitty quaker hmmmm
