Isn't that a disaster! I can't imagine something like that happening and wasn't it in Oklahoma that one had collapsed during a flood? the pain those people must be experiencing waiting to hear about their loved ones...

I used to be deathly afraid to drive the Miami to Key West bridges and this was before there was 4 lanes when we were stationed at KW...I wanted to drive with my eyes closed!! here is bad eough with the bridges to cross over the Gulf and Sound to get to the next town...

Terrible tragedy.  And there are so many aging bridges now - scary for anyone who has to cross one on a daily basis.
The "silver bridge" between Point Pleasant WV and Gallipolis Ohio collapsed on 12/15/67 during rush hour.  We were scheduled to go to an early family Christmas party in Huntington WV the following Friday (12/22)  and we always considered ourselves very lucky that we didn't decide to go a week earlier, even though we had talked about it.  Good chance we would have been on it when it collapsed.  Still gives me shivers.

We had the Escambia Bay Bridge fall into the Gulf or at least a segment... we had no electricity so I didn't get to see what Ivan did but they finally finished the biggest section of it... How I hated to drive on girds and looking down through them seeing the Gulf Of Mexico throwing water up onto the auto's.. To get to where I live you can either take one long bridge or the three smaller ones and the alligators live there... they look like floating logs.

The I-40 bridge collapse over the Arkansas River near Webbers Falls OK was caused by a tug boat pilot falling asleep and running a barge into the understructure of the bridge.
The MPLS is worse in that so many more people were on the bridge during the collapse. I am embarrassed to admit that I don't remember how many lost their lives in the OK collapse. They are interviewing survivors of our tragedy since the MPLS bridge collapse.

I forgot about the tub boat... and then the train crash in Mobile was due to I believe the same thing... a barge hitting it and not being reported...
I can't remember any bridge disaster as bad as the one yesterday in MN....
