Hi Sunflower,

From my experience (but not with quackers) it will take a bit of time before she adjusts to her new home. I always offer millet to my new birds or any of my babies going to a new owner. They never refuse it, so at least they do eat that, and after a few days they start to eat their regular food. You may try putting a mirror for awhile maybe this might help her loneliness. Good luck just give it time.

Hi Sunflower --

I too have a Quaker. He is my best little bud - we have a great bond. I have had him since July 2002. When I purchased him from the pet store his cage was beside his 'sister'. When I was buying my little bird the screams these 2 birds made for each other was soo sad.  The farther I got - the louder they called out to each other. When I got home he just sat in the corner of his cage. After a few days sitting beside his cage and talking sweetly and singing (horribly) he got more interested in me - with time he will be the sweet parrot you are looking for. Although I struggled with the decision to buy his sister Patty for a long time - I would visit her at the store. So sad. He will bond with you - just give it time to earn his trust.   Hope this helps and if you have any other questions, I'd be glad to help.

Tweety will adjust to the changes.....it doesn't happen immediately.  You do need to be positive he is eating though.  Offer the regular food, a seed mix with good variety, a dish with a mix veggies and some fruits.  And almost no bird will refuse a wedge of fresh corn on the cob, or some apple.  Until he settles in, you can feed whatever will get him to eat, and work on a better diet when he is more comfortable, although you should start offering everything to him right now.

I have 2 quakers and I know that there will be some that won't agree with what I am going to say but.... I am acutally sorry that I bought a pair, not that I don't love them both but man oh man when I try to just take one for a few minutes of alone time with mom the screaming that occurs will curl your toes. It probably doesn't help much that they are in 1 cage but seperating them takes nerves and ears of steel lol..

I think he will come around it's just going to take some time and patience on your part, just when you think he won't ever come around he will suprise you.

Give Tweety lots of love and lots of time to adjust to his new house, his surroundings, and you.   He has been with a "mate" for a year and he probably does miss the other bird.
I have 2 quakers, differ in age by 3 years.  The older one taught the younger one to talk.  Now I hear little echo's.  lol  Its great.  They arent bonded together, so I can move them from room to room.   They dont share a cage as the older one is cage dominant, and thats how he came to us.
I cant imagine life without either one, no matter all the noise I hear day to day.   If they are quiet, somethings wrong, I worry, we see the vet.  lol    I guess I am just used to the noise from the toos , and the macaw, that the quakers just seem to fit in.   lol
Give it some time, and tons of love, and Im sure you and Tweety will have a great life together.
Tink
