The Buffalo Reflex
August 8, 1957

John Henry Wilson, son of Benjamin and Nancy Sweaney Wilson, was born June 16, 1872 and departed this life at his home in Buffalo at 10:30 Sunday night, August 4, 1957, being at the time of his death 85 years, 1 month and 19 days old.

He had been in bad health several months, but became worse on July 8th.  Everything was done for him that human hands could do, but God saw fit to take him home and he passed away so peacefully to meet his God.  He never belonged to any church but he made the good confession and told his loved ones and minister that he was prepared to go.

On January 9, 1894, he was united in marriage to Minervia Ann McClurg and to this union were born nine children.  They are: Mrs. Iva Wimberly, Mrs. Frena Maddux, Mrs. Fannie Maddux, Otto and Hubert Wilson of El Dorado, Kansas; Bert Wilson of Monett, Mo; Mrs. Ima Hill of Buffalo, Alvis and Artie Wilson of Route 2 Long Lane.

Mr. Wilson spent his entire life in Dallas County.  He and his companion lived on a farm in the Benton Branch community 59 years and raised they children.  Four years ago they moved to their home in Buffalo. They spent over 62 years of married life together and his passing was the first to break the family circle.  We know that he can't come back to us but we can all go to him where again our family circle will be complete.  He was a good neighbor, a kind companion and loving father and grandfather and it has been said by his entire family that he was never heard to speak an unkind word of anyone.  He will be sadly missed.

He leaves to mourn his untimely passing, his companion, his nine children 30 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, one brother, Jim Wilson of Oregon; 4 sons-in-law; 4 daughters-in-law; several nieces and nephews and two own cousins, John Hedge Wilson of the Marshall Boarding Home who so faithfully helped care for him in his last days, and Mrs. Annie Jennings of Miami, Oklahoma, also a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Benton Branch Church wil the Rev. Earl Scrivner of Springfield officiating.  Burial was in the Benton Branch cemetery under the direction of the Montgomery Funeral Home of Buffalo.
