Hi everyone...you all are such inspirations. I have been battling a pain in my hip for almost two years. I have been to several doctors and have had several procedures during this time. I am waiting for a hip arthrogram (sp?) with an injection. Latest dr guess is a labral tear in my right hip. Unfortunately, I have had to delay this procedure as I have to be off of the glucophage for about 5 days so there won't be a possible reaction of the glucophage to the dye they use. I couldn't go off the glucophage at first because my bg #'s weren't in good control. I have been working diligently on those #'s and my primary doc has given me the tentitive OK to have the procedure done, however, he wants me to see an Endo (which I have an appt with in April) to see if the Endo agrees it is OK to come of the Glucophage for a few days. ANY WAY, for about a year now, the pain in my hip has caused me to rely on a cane. Some days are worse then others, but I do still go to work and do what has to be done, I'm not giving in to this!!! I can't wait for this arthrogram....I want it to work sooooo bad. I want to be out there walking again. After reading your posts I decided to open up my meter and put it on just to see what I could handle (walking wise). I may be slow until I get my procedure done, but I'm determined to do the best I can. Sorry for the long message.....you all are just so inspiring!!! |

Kathi Sorry that you are in such pain, and that you have to wait for hope of relief. Are you able to take any meds...Motrin or Tylenol at least? Have you tried soaking in a warm bath to ease the pain? I don't know if this would apply to your case...about 8 years ago I broke my hip due to a fall (I have osteoporosis) The fracture didn't heal properly at first, so a hip replacement was done. It was really a piece of cake! After suffering with the original break, and trying to get it to heal for months, it was a relief to just get the replacement done and be over with it. Therapy was relatively quick and simple. Of course, I don't know if that is an option for you. To answer your next question, I am only 47, and the osteoporosis is due to transplant meds. Hope something I said here is a help to you! I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us posted, OK? sheryl |

Thanks for sharing Sheryl. I try to keep the tylenol, advil, etc to a minimum...only if I really, really, really have to have some. I have a back operations in 1991 and the years prior to the operation I literally lived on motrin all day/every day. When I finally had my operation I really had withdrawals from it. Anyway, I just adapt as best as I can and keep on chugging. I am looking forward to that procedure and I pray it'll help. My mother had her hip replaced almost 2 years ago and she is doing fantastic. It won't be long before she'll need the other hip done. I believe her hips became shot due to all her years of working on her feet. She's 75 and is in great shape....rides her excercise bike at least an hour a day, watches her diet, etc. |

Kathi - Welcome! Glad to see you are clicking! Good luck with your proceedure. Last year we walked at the mall before it opened. Hubby walked with his cane. He got a new hip last year. It's helped so much with the pain. He has osteoarthritis. Join us on the pedometer thread and tell us how many steps (I call them clicks because of the click sound) you are getting. Hugs, angelbear |

Thank you Angelbear.....happy to see your hubby is much, much better after his operation. I left the house without the pedometer today.....I have to get into the habit of wearing it. Yesterday I only wore it for a few hours and I wasn't very active as we were running tests on our computers at work and I didn't have a chance to do much "moving". However, it is amazing how those steps add up! Getting moving really does help those sugars, don't they! There is just so much to take into consideration with diabetes!! Take care |
