No way Jose I'm not going to the bathroom to get a shot!! I refuse if they don't like it they can throw me out. Nursing a baby in the bathroom is bad enough. Getting a shot is not like going to the bathroom, it's more like eating and I do that in public. Just my opinion. |

The Lilly Company has a great chart that shows various locations that are appropiate for injecting insulin.Call their toll free number and they will send you a publication with good instructions and a diagram. Dick Fr... |

The nurse told my husband to inject in a fatty part like the stomach or the front part of the legs. She checked and then told him that he better make it the stomach and that was ify about any fat there......Oh, to have his weight problem....lol Janet |

I used to choose my injection site by how fast i wanted the insulin to "hit me" but I have read somewhere that both Humulog and Lantus (the two types I use) do not matter as far as where I inject, so I do it wherever it won't mark if I bleed a little (I do it through my clothes, most of the time). I use mostly my tummy or the back of my thighs. They seem to be the spots that hurt the least. I do end up with blood on some of my jeans, but so what? My brother, who is a physician, said that I am remarkably well adjusted for just treating it matter-of-factly. As far as nursing a baby in the restroom - PLEASE. I would NEVER feed my babies there - I was just discreet and threw a little blanket over my shoulder when I nursed. I guess if I did that in public, I'd be the type to inject and test in public, right? RIGHT. My health is nobody's business but mine and my family's and they can live with it or look away (as my squeemish 15-year-old does). Ann |

Use my arms, legs and bottom - tried my tummy but just feels strange and puts me off my food!!! (no logic to that at all). I do inject through clothing, though have been trying to cut that down....I used to be quite grim and use needles 'til they went blunt, but they have told me off for doing that at the hospital (to be honest can't see any difference in my control from being a lot more sterile). I tend to blood test in toliets, just 'cos I wash my hands before, but inject at the table - have used arms or legs - never noticed anyone staring and no one has said anything. On the point of sites being quicker acting - legs and bum are slower release and arms and legs are quicker - I've had patches of quite sensitive ness with my diabetes, and found that a good eliminating factor for problems is to try and inject in the same area i.e. in an arm at the same times each day - does that make sense - so always use an arm for lunch, and a leg for tea or something like that - that has helped my sugars be a bit more predicatable (though I am pregnant and my diabetes always gets a bit more sensitive when I am pregnant!) |

I haven't been injecting very long, but I was advised to use only my tummy. There is, after all, lots of it.
I alternate sides (I also alternate testing on right and left hands to keep track of where I should be injecting--left one day, right the next). I save the middle of my stomach for when I'm dining out, so that I can just undo a button and slip the needle in above my belly button. At breakfast, I usually go under the belt line, since I'm by myself or just with family, and I can just pull my pajamas down a bit. It helps me spread the shots around.
The biggest problem I've had at Rotary is people always asking, "Does it hurt?" They seem to understand that it's just something I have to do. I won't use the bathroom, because there's no place to put everything down, and after all, I'm not doing anything that I should be ashamed of.

Arms, inside thighs, and abdomen is the areas that I give my shot. When I had my insulin pump it was in my lower back just around from my abdomen and in my abdomen. As for at restaurants, I take my shots and blood sugar in the bathroom. I still had a lot of people that it bothers. I guess it bothers me with them staring and talking behind my back. Though I know that I shouldn't let it bother me. Cherise |

Cherise, I would never go into the bathroom to inject my Insilin. I go out all the time at least 3 times a week and inject at the table. I use a pen and inject in my legs when I;m in public. If I'm not wearing shorts then I inject through my Jeans. I have never had a complaint, and most never know I'm injecting. Have a great night. Tim |

Funny how different people react different ways. I've always been upfront about having to inject my insulin, and no one has ever complained. I did have one woman almost pass out on me at Christmas while I was having lunch with a group of volunteers, but she apologized for her squeemishness, and told me that she passes out when she has to have a blood test run. That's her problem, not mine. My only problem is that I always inject in my stomach, and I've discovered that every time I put on a new white shirt, I end up bleeding on it. Never happens with the old ones. *sigh* My diabetes clinic has told me that they've heard about my upfrontness, and they thanked me, because they think I'm making it easier for others who are having to start insulin or do testing before meals. This is an old post but I enjoyed reading the comments. I would NEVER feed my baby in the Bathroom...I mean come on in this day and age....if you dont like it don tlook.........cover up with a blanket and all is fine...I am uncomfortable giving a shot in public as I dont want them to see my 'spread' lol so that I coudl do in the bathroom...or if I know I am going out I do it at home and I sometimes try to get it all ready before I go so that way all I do is take it out and level it then give my shot...a pen of course would be nicer and I thik then I would do it in public |

I use the fatty part (top) of the breast high above the areola, but below the collarbone usually to inject, but when out and about (or at work) I inject in the belly or upper leg. It was mentioned to me a long time ago though if you are pregnant, not to inject in the stomach. |

Hiya, well i do my lantus in my tummy(cannot feel parts of my stomach from having c-sections) and my humalog before meals in my left arm . I have done it in my thighs but now my thighs are very sensitive and i hate the feeling of feeling it. I have never done it thru my clothes or have I ever done it at a restaurant table, only because it hasnt come up yet that I needed to. We rarely eat out(we have 6 kids), and I prefer home cooked meals. |
